So what brand of food do you feed your huskys

Quest, its an online only working dog food, high protein, fairly high fat (20%), so good for active dogs.

£33 delivered, lasts a month for 2 dogs

its not the protein %age that makes a difference, its the source.

If your food label reads :cereals, meat and animal derivatives, derivatives of vegatable origin, etc etc, your dog is not getting a good protein source, the protein is added in as additives, and coming from cereals and derivatives. Not good, makes for hyper dogs

My 2 are on 30% protein, but are currently fast asleep, werent taken out yesterday, and as yet havent been out today (will go out when i get back from work later) they are fast asleep, and would stay like this for about 3 days, just chilling and sleeping, regardless of whether they got a walk. they are high energy siberian huskies.

This is because the protein source in their food is meat, chicken is the main one, but there is also some fish, the filler is rice, which is loads better than cereals like corn and wheat. and there are no additives and preservatives, thats why they're still asleep ;)

I disagree, in my dog's case (and I believe in the case of labs) the excess protein (over 20%) affects them, not hyperactivity but over shedding of hair, smelly breath, smelly generally, weepy eyes and hot spots (sore areas).

Just as a matter of interest, why do you feed a working dog brand if you don't even walk them every day??

Maybe they are bored ? I don't understand how anyone doesn't take their dog out at least once a day ?

He'd know if they were bored, Huskies destroy things when they're bored, not just normal destruction either!!

they do get walks most days, i damaged my knee recently so the didnt go out for a couple of days, no big deal, they walked for 2 hours (about 6 miles) to the off lead park today, and ran around offlead with their husky friends for over 4 hours

they are working dogs, so run in harness regularly (mainly during cooler months, but in summer we can regularly be spotted at 2am going about 30mph round the feilds. They also compete in competitions during the working season, in fact, we're going to one next sunday :jlast one of the season :(

see above answer, please dont assume that my dogs are under exercised or mistreated ;) they probably do more activities than you do.

My 9m WSS has had a variety of foods, not hyper and stunning coat.

She has dry kibble with small quantities of wet and I am keeping her on three meals a day, plus treats and kong stuffings of various kinds eg Veggie chews, cream cheese, peanut butter, rawhide twists (Wilko), big raw carrot. Cheap ham and cooked liver are great for recall! I mix them in the treat bag with plainer stuff so the flavour gets taken up.

I only buy 2kg bags which is more expensive but less risk of waste. I also try only to buy from companies which don't test on animals (other than palatability) and as you'll see, mostly organic.

Just to give you an idea:
    Dry foods:
    Benevo Organic
    Burns Organic
    Organipets
    Waitrose Organic

    Wet foods:
    Yarrah Organic Vegetarian trays
Burns Penlan Farm egg variety pouches
    Benevo tins
    Yarrah organic chicken
  • Hi Guys,

Am finding this thread very intresting....but am totally confused about which food is best..I guess its just personal/dog preference!!

I have a 9 week old border collie puppy and am currently feeding him on the food he has been on from birth (pet store own brand)...however I would like to change him over (gradually) at 12 weeks. I intend to do agility and flyball in the future with him and he will be a very well excersied dog. Obviously I am very keen to give him a good start and allow him to grow and develop good muscles for the future...any suggestions? Should he be on a working dog food?

    Thanks
