Physics and astronomy discoveries are very rarely 'visible' in the sense you imply. Even much of biology is difficult to visualise. The discovery of the double helix structure of DNA. by using xray crystallography being a prime example. The identification of the first viruses, using filters that prevented bacterial spread but not tobacco mosaic disease is another.
You may be as dismissive as you like (water off a ducks back). Doesn't make you any more right. Faith and belief are poor substitutes for knowledge.
I would suggest that you drop down from your scientific high horse once in a while and explore a few different avenues.
I speak from personal knowlegdge and experience. Which part of that statement do you not understand?
For you to prove those experiences in a scientific experiment it would be necessary to recreate precisely the exact circumstances and environment in which they originally occurred. Hence why scientific experiments to prove the accuracy of clairvoyant/psychics/mediums (whichever term you prefer) fail.
If I had faith and belief I would be reading the Bible/Koran or other religious tomes and attending church/temple on a regular basis. Which I don't.
Unlike you I have no need to type out huge amounts of supporting data for my argument. I know what I have experienced (and continue to experience on a daily basis), I don't need it be be proven over and over by a bunch of intellectuals who think they know more than me.Freebies Received: Supersavvyme bag, Olay moisturiser, Barbara Daly/Tesco Mascara, Seeds of Change Choccie, Yorkshire Tea Kenyan teabags, Tesco mobile sim cards x 2.

I've been to a few of these nights, it's something I believe in, and am learning tarot myself, which is by the way, NOT someone saying they hear voices, but interperiting the cards depending on the order they are chosen, and which cards are drawn together, you don't have to 'hear ghosts' in order to do tarot, just learn. It's a very personal thing, but the reading's I've had with a few trusted people have been spot on in terms of past present and future, whereas others I think are kidding themselves as well as the customers lol.
Anyway, my advice would be to charge an entrance fee rather than pay as you go so to speak. Depending on how much your clairvoyants are charging, and the number of people you expect to come, usual price I've seen is between £4 and £8 maximum, if your charging more I would maybe put something on the tables, biscuits, sandwiches, again depending on the price, and add a free drink to the price. I'd also do a raffle, with a personal reading with one of the speakers.
Any nights I've been to charging an admission fee, the speakers have done a demonstration, usually one person would do a clairvoyant type reading, maybe taking guests jewellery to home in on, the other person would maybe do a tarot demonstration, trying to get through everyone with a short 3 card reading. I would speak to the people you have in mind first as I find these types of demonstrations are better than the ones I've been to where you have the clairvoyant just randomly pick people to speak to, as you sometimes won't get a reading, whereas the more focused ones, everyone is guaranteed a message, or a tarot reading.
Hope it all goes wellSealed Pot Challenge member 1315

I think that this discussion is very helpful to the OP,in showing her that what she is thinking of doing is controversial to say the least. So if she goes ahead with it she will do so with her eyes open and knowing that it may have after effects, backlash, etc, for which she would otherwise not have been prepared0

HEY OP!!!!
Lets bring it BACK to topic shall we.
Ok, I've been to a few of these evenings. Our local restaurant does an evening with a buffet for £7 a ticket.
I'd hold the event when the tea room is normally closed
I'd also pop along to your local spiritulist club and see if they will let you advertise ?0 -

i have a very old quaint and creaky Tea rooms in sussex, business not to bad at the moment but i am thinking of other ideas to bring in a little extra and also to have a bit of fun.
I have always been into clairvoyants, and would probably ring two of them up to attend the afternoon evening whichever suits.
Does any one have any experience of these evenings, and also any ideas as the best ways to run this evening, do i charge entrance fees? do i do a raffle, food or drink, should i have a guest speaker, how long should the time be. women only or mixed, how should i advertise.
I obviously have some ideas of how i would like to do it but merely asking for any suggestions ideas.
Thanks in advance.
Julie.
You can't please everyone. Whatever you hold someone will have a problem with it so I say go with it. It's a tea room in the day and I can't see people saying their stop going because of an event you held in the evening.
I think it's a good idea and I'd go if you were near me. It's up to the person who attends to take it as they wish and see it as a fun evening among friends.
I think if you want to do it then do it. Charge a fee and in that includes ftea and coffee and nibbles. Hope it goes wellThe day I had my Beautiful son is the day everything came together for me. For someone so small he done so much and made me complete.0 -

In fairness - that's not because you don't need to, but because you simply cannot.0 -
Sorry, but you would lose my custom for good. It is blatent exploitation, usually of the ones who can least afford it. Why don't you look into poetry, book clubs, or jazz evenings just to name a few.0

Even better.... a money saving tips evening!0

Learning languages, for example holiday french and spanish, travel experiences etc. That would really bring in the people.0

Surely those who belive in phsyics, mediums etc are no more being expolited then those who practice religion.
People believe what they want and I don't think you should push your own views on to others as we all have different life experiences and thats what makes each person an individual.0
