Thanks to Violetta & Moneybot for your support just because you do not believe there is no point mocking other people, shame on you both, it is times like this when i feel like never posting on here again because of some of these pea brain posters. Hope you are both happy with yourselves and hope that if you ever loose anyone close you will not have to call on anything like this.
You don't put shame on me. I thought Derek Acorah was a top clairvoyant & the amusing clip might lighten the mood. Also I am not a pea brain but stick's & stones etc. Obviously the subject is inflammatory to a lot of people I know some religions see something like this akin to practising the occult & would find it deeply offensive. I myself am not religious but I am not a fan of this kind of thing but each to their own.
I have lost someone very close to me and she warned me before she died "don't bother with any of that carry on, I don't want to be bothered once I'm dead". So I got all the messages I needed before the grave.
    Booo!!!
  • To OP,
I hope you go ahead with your evening and I think your find it will be a big hit with 'most' of the public. As I said before you can't please everyone but people who say they'd stop going to a tea room because of an evening event, well their sad really. There could be a book club on in my local tea room, not my thing but it wouldn't make me stop going. People who say they would clearly just expect everything to be about them and their wants and needs and are forgetting that we all have different things were interested in, if your not then don't go but why on earth make such a silly fuss over nothing.

Get a grip people and stop throwing your toys out your pram.

    Good luck OP hope it all goes great : }

    Definition of "Empirical" from wikipedia:

"A central concept in modern science and the scientific method is that all evidence must be empirical, or empirically based, that is, dependent on evidence or consequences that are observable by the senses. ... The term refers to the use of working hypotheses that are testable using observation or experiment. In this sense of the word, scientific statements are subject to and derived from our experiences or observations."

Therefore, if there was any empirical evidence for clairvoyancy, someone would have to devise a *repeatable* experiment that could demonstrate the ability to communicate with the dead. Has anybody done this?

There is a big difference between a book club and a clairvoyant evening though - one exploits vulnerable people, taking money for utter claptrap! You might think it sad but I stand by my comment that if a small busiess did something I believed to be harmful I would boycott it - its called having principles.
People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

  • Sounds very interesting. I am very interested in clairvoyants and spooky stuff. A couple of weeks ago I went to see a medium called Colin Fry. He seemed very genuine.

I am also going to see a medium called Gordon Smith on the 16th May. Don't if anybody has heard of him. Have always wanted to see him as I've heard he is very accurate. Have never had a message unfortunately. Suppose the best way is one to one.

    That's my two cents.
  • To rachbc

I also have my principles and would not want a customer like you clairvoyant evening or not?
Like my comments and others we are entitled to what we believe in regardless of what others think?

That is what you think though, clearly others think differently!

Why can't people have different beliefs? I am very anti religion but wouldn't dream of telling someone what they believe in is wrong. It is just my opinion and they would have their own! After all that argument is what has started many, many wars over the years because people can't bear other people thinking differently from themselves.

  • I dont usually post to threads apart from Old Style but had to respond to this one.

Op - if you had asked the question "what do you think about a book club evening?" your thread would have been much shorter than this one.

I personally feel - remember people, personally feel - the clairvoyant evening is a good one. You could always advertise it as a light hearted evening. If the first one is a success and you don't get any burning crosses on your door afterwards, perhaps do it every other month.

Another approach for business possibilities could be to drop some flyers in the the library, WI, local sports club to see if they would be interested in a similar evening. I used to belong to a cross stitch club and we had terrible trouble getting a venue.

    Good luck

Now for those of you who are blasting clairvoyancy and mediumship in general - yes, there are charlatons out there. Same as charlaton used car sales people, charlaton door to door sales people. Christianity is not always practised by perfect preachers..........if you see what I mean.

Much of christianity came from Pagan beliefs and values - and at the end of the day we are discussing an idea the Op had to help increase her business.

If you want to flame me, do so. I really dont care. I believe in kindness and goodness, helping others.............and listening to my intuition.

If you wait for perfect conditions, nothing would ever get done! :T
    I'm not short - I'm condensed awesome! :p

Again, really quite rude and judgemental against people's personal belief's, how would you feel if someone told you what you believe in is utter claptrap? That is your opinion, have the common decency to respect others beliefs!!!
