Just thinking out loud...
I know money doesn't bring happiness but I think if I had more money I would be happier!
I don't think I would be all that paranoid dining or drinking on my own if I didn't have debts. I imagine I would feel more powerful and at ease with myself... can anyone understand what I am trying to say here?
I think that's understandable - I was watching the Biggest Loser USA (guilty pleasure!) yesterday and they had a finance expert who - correctly - predicted the winner at the beginning of the series just by looking at their credit reports/bills etc. There's a definite correlation between wealth and health and happiness.
But not that more money = more happiness, just if you're stressed about money it seeps through into all areas of your life. You could be in debt of £1000 or £100,000 or just be juggling too many balls - it's kind of obviously really.
Equally taking control of one area of your life - in your case, smoking - has a positive impact on all the other areasHey Poddle, just wanted to reinforce what you said here... OK he looked lonely to me and my partner at that time.... I felt sorry for him even though he may have been having a blast by himself but it didnt look like it from where I was sitting
Fair point. Some people are lonely and in terribly sad situations through no fault of their own, but you're not one of those people! You're clearly a very sociable, interesting person (eesh, that sounds patronising - not my intention!) and I don't think it's a bad thing to relax your budget for a good night out with friends. Sure, spending time with your loved ones doesn't need to cost anything, but sometimes it just does! Enjoy
PS. My budget for food, petrol, going out, luxuries, house stuff etc is around £400 - I could be stricter (I almost certainly *should* be stricter) but girl's gotta live! And occasionally buy Mac make up. No twirly Martin's for me, eh?LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380 -

Just wanted to chime in that some of my best holidays have been alone - I like it so much that I sometimes ditch the OH and travel without him! Backpacking as a girl on her own is fabulous if you have your wits about you - you'll get to interact with local women that groups and men never get to talk to, and everyone (especially older folk) try to take care of you and you meet so many more fellow travelers than you would as half of a couple. The only time I prefer to travel in twos / threes is while trekking, and in that case a friends serves just as well as a partner. I might look lonely sitting on a bus or at a restaurant on my own, but Im out having the time of my life!

Taking my frugal life on the road!0 -
[QUOTE
I allow £120 per month for food, £10 for toiletries, £70 for petrol and £100 for entertainment. This has worked out well so far and I'm proud of myself for finally addressing my debts :T
Good luck to all of you and I look forward to reading more of your posts xxx[/QUOTE]
How do you manage on the petrol budget? I have a psychological thing about putting more than £50 in the car, as long as it costs me less than that I am happy. However, to ensure this happens, I am having to have well over 1/4 tank to fill up for less than £50. In general this lasts about a month, but it doesn't help when petrol goes down 1p a litre following the budget and less than a week later,it has gone up again?A smile costs little but creates much0 -

I love this thread...have been following for ages so I thought I would join in as a fellow single female who finds it hard to do things on my own!
Petrol is stupid...I've moved house and live 3 minutes walk from work, but because I have to have a car as part of my job description I am still paying out a small fortune.
I don't think having money makes you happy, but I think it gives you choices - and that's what would make me happy. I'd love to work less, have more time to do the things I want, travel more...but it all comes down to the pennies in the end!0 -
Between now and October - every penny is spoken for! Some is too savings though...After October i will be spending £500 a month on EVERYTHING. Well thats the plan. As frugal as i can get...but with a £75 a month budget for going out...just so i stay sane!!!Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

Thats been on my mind a bit too. I hope all this talk of disposable income hasn't naffed her off. Do you know Ani has her own diary? She's not posted on there for a few days - the last post suggested that she had a lot of work on
Hope you're okay Ani and looking after yourself0 -

Ahh...no I didn't know Ani has her own diary - I follow a few thread and might end up with square eyes if I try to add any moreFingers crossed it is just work then keeping her away - I say that in the hopes that it means a little more income for her, I (we) know and understand / care that things are very tight for her - more than most of us, and it must be hard to keep positive at times.
Hugs Ani :grouphug: and hope to see you back sn xFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Where's Lucy tonight?
Bet she's gone out on her own. Good girl!
I can just picture her now, sat on a barstool at the end of a bar sipping on iced tap water and occasionally peeping out from behind a really interesting book. The barman tells her the guy at the other end has sent over a Martini Cocktail with his compliments and she sends it back explaining she can't afford a taxi home as it doesn't fit her budget :rotfl:0 -
