Squeaky - welcome to the board as a BG
Thank you
And squeaky is a him.
The username comes not from a squeaky voice but from my one time signature on bulletin boards...
Richard, whose nice comfy chair by the fire has a squeak!Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Sale of Goods Act
I've used the ConsumerDirect site for the moment.
Is there one "best site", or a shortlist of good ones that we should here?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Yep. At the moment I'm just aiming at a quick hitlist of the basics. Once it is done and fine tuned then at the bottom of each section I can add links to threads that help expand and explain and even demonstrate "help in action"
Lets get the wall built first before we start trying to hang pictures on it
Honest guv, I'm amenable to all suggestions as to what needs to be there; just gimme chance

No single site provides decent advice all around.
The OFT and BIS (formerly BERR/DTI) do have good advice but they are more geared towards businesses but contain the relevant info legal info.0 -

I think these might do well in the FAQs post of the sticky - or would the "Other Links" in the main links post be better?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. That's a fair old chunk of text.
Would someone like to write a brief one paragraph outline that I can put into a FAQ plus the link, please?
On the order of:
Am I entitled to a refund, or replacement, or repair?
Your brief outline...

WRT what to check before purchasing online, Another thing to remember is whether there is any auto-renewal. We get a lot of people who get upset when a company takes more money from them further down the line. If you are buying a service, check
1) How much and how often monies will be taken
2) How to cancel and how much notice needs to be givenOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
Ok thanks

So... with the draft I've got in the last post of the ReadMe, and now this suggestion...
Would it be a good idea to have a "Hints and tips" type page? Perhaps "Good Shopping Guide"? Or "What to check before buying"?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
