Hi, I've been away for quite a while - and the last time I was here the search system point blank refused to search on any word less than four letters.
Secondly, right now I have a huge amount of "stuff" to catch up on as quickly as I can (not least of which is how the board deals with rude and agressive posters these days) and if I stopped to "fully research" every single term used on the board I'd be too busy to be of any help at all for quite some time. So, at times, in these early days I will be asking rather than researching because it's quicker.
Thirdly, I was also making a deliberate point:- there are clearly lots of posters new to the subject asking for help - and throwing a whole buch of acronyms at them is not as helpful as it could be. In fact, easy links, brief explanations of common things, and a hit list of common terms used on the board is why I started this thread.
Of course, we don't actually need a helpful post such as that because everybody can research the whole darn subject for themselves. Right?
I don't really care how long you've been 'away' or how much 'stuff' you have to deal with...that applies to most of us really. You are a BG on MSE on the consumer forum asking what DSR means...AND THAT IS SO WRONG!0 -

Oh dear. Then I shall consider myself to have been well and truly corrected. Thank you ever so much for your concern and your input.
Now...
..do you by any chance have some other things to add to the thread since you know your way around here so well? Things like links to explanations which you regularly have to point out to new posters?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. You seem to post quite often here. As such I'm assuming that your posts are helpful and informative. So if you find that you are frequently referring to one or more websites or resources when answering users posts - I thought you might like to have those links placed in a collection of things that will help make it easier for new members to best use the board?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I think what gordikin's concern is that "consumer rights" is a minefield filled with misinformation, and that a person of authority on such a board, on a well-publicised and extremely active website, should have at least a basic understanding of said rights. DSR certainly falls under the category of basic rights. I understand that you are a volunteer, but I ask in all earnesty, and certainly not as a put down - Do you consider yourself qualified to be a guide to this forum, where unsubstantiated opinions masquerading as facts are ripe? The term "Board guide" implies that the person is familiar with the board and the posts and content made therein. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

You are under something of a misapprehension of my role here.
My role as a Board Guide is to help with the operation of the board. I.e. to do things such as merge posts (where appropriate), to move posts to other boards if a member has posted in completely the wrong place, or might get better advice from a different board, and to deal with spam posts.
I do not have to answer poster's queries on Customer Rights and I have absolutely no intention of doing so.
I was surprised to find that a Board now approximately two years old doesn't have an introductory sticky which contains helpful links etc. so I've offered to compile one. However, my role in this will simply be to put together those items which you, the forum users and regulars, deem to be helpful. I shall not be exercising any "editorial control" here - merely doing my best to write out your suggestions in a readable and hopefully helpful format.
All this said:- if you feel that I am not a suitable candidate as a Board Guide here you are welcome to write to the Forum Team expressing your concerns. No, that's fair enough and I appreciate your candour, and the spirit in which you read my post.
I think the problem lies with the title "board guide" (and I understand you didn't choose that!)
If such a title confuses the regulars, it will surely confuse newcomers even moreso.
However, you do have a role of authority, and sarcastic comments such as "Oh dear. Then I shall consider myself to have been well and truly corrected. Thank you ever so much for your concern and your input." are probably ill-advised, as similar comments from usual members would be frowned upon.
That all said, an FAQ/Link guide would be most beneficiary

Thank you...you put that more eloquently than I ever could.0 -
Yeah, Board Guide may not be the best description; and we are certainly not moderators

As for authority... hmm... tricky one. It's a whole lot more "perceived" than actual. The authority here lies with the Forum Team as a matter of deliberate policy and not with the Board Guides.
On some boards having an expert present is very useful; on others, given a possible "minefield" situation - it can lead to even more disputes between the "official board guide" so to speak, and those members with a great deal of knowledge and expertise of their own.
So... I'm an operational BG and not an expert witness
Regulars who do have expertise in this area, btw, are also welcome to put their names forward as Board Guides.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
