That's not entirely true. Yes, NetServices will ask for the line to be clear of ADSL (ie cease broadband on your BT line) but you CAN'T take up another broadband service until around 11th December 2006 as it takes about 2 weeks for the line to clear so broadband can then be taken again with another provider.
Don't be too pessimistic. A post on the ISP Review Forum today suggest that BT Wholesale are expecting the cease requests this Friday (24th) and that the lines will all be free the following Friday (1st) "without fail". See http://www.ispreview.co.uk/talk/showthread.php?t=22483.

So we may be able to sign up with new ISPs sooner than you think. Then the only question is which one?

  • Update on status on the Netservices page. Had to laugh at the 'Sarahh' email address - she's in for a shock when she comes back from her leave:D

Interesting that Ezeedsl have reduced/improved the package - off there now for a look.

  • Do we still have to cancel our accounts with v21 in writing ?
Would v21 still take payments even though we dont have broadband ?

    PREDICTION FOR 07/08

  • I pay by debit card and I'm going to request a new card so they can't get any more money.
  • I don't mean to be contentious, thinking aloud really, but I wonder what compensation we could negotiate in order to stay as a customer with V21??

I know that most of you are now balking with disbelief at this idea, but sometimes you can really exploit a situation like this and turn it round to really benefit your pocket.

Nothing like having to bear a poor customer service experience in order to negotiate a competitive ongoing deal.

Hi weaver33, I don't think you are being contentious at all. I've been with v21 for more than 5 years (initially Free 24-7 on dial up then broadband with v21 properly for last 6 months) and have had very little problems at all. I think what has happened is outrageous and at the moment I don't know the full truth of why this has happened (NetServices bad customer relations apart).

I am currently connecting to the internet on the free broadband emergency dial up for users (PLEASE NOTE not the 0845 number which is posted on the v21 biscit site which IS being charged at 'local' rate) without problem.

During the last few days I have been looking at alternative ISP's and I have been unable to find a deal so far that compares with v21 in any way. The one currently winning my vote for change is Prodigy Network because it looks as though you don't need the MAC to move to them if the ADSL is to be cancelled within a few days of sign up with them. BUT I haven't taken the final step because I don't know anything about them and I might be jumping from the fat into the frying pan, though they are a little more expensive. I have no desire to be held to ransom by NetServices again and at least with v21 we know that won't be happening!

V21 have said if we migrate back to them the first month of broadband will be free (in answer to your question) and that 'we' will not be billed during this difficult time. We've yet to see on that score. So currently, I don't know what to do on the 24th move or stay/go back with v21. Certainly I haven't been able to fault them in the past, though I now see others' have had problems with them.
  • If you go over to www.zenbroadband.com and type in your phone number where it says "Can I Get Broadband", you'll be able to see if the cease order for your line has been put through yet (and the date of the cease). It's a line checker (for Zen Broadband) to see if you are able to get broadband and to see if you already have broadband on the line. It's handy, as it tells you if there's anything like a cease order in progress.

I would strongly advise all V21 customers waiting for their ceases orders to do this, as it will show the cease date if the order has been put through (mine is showing).

I was going by the normal amount of time it takes (also this is what is indicated on Ofcom's website).

Obviously, BT Openreach are going to cease ADSL on the lines for V21/Fast24 customers as a matter of urgency instead of taking the usual amount of time to process cease requests.

However, there is still no guarantee this will happen on the date but I hope it does.

I'm not sure. I'd say the contracts have been broken by v21 (for whatever is the real underlying reason) so no I wouldn't have said so.

However, you could just send them an email stating you are cancelling your broadband/contract because they have broke the terms of the contract just in case!
