I have just been reading through some of the success stories and didn't spot Nationwide who I'm trying to claim off?
Even though I'm a hardship case, ie on benefits, they and the FOS doesn't think my case is strong enough, any advice what to do next please?

If the FOS has assessed you and said No then the answer is NO. However, did they send you an income and expenditure form?
Are there arrears outstanding? Being on benefits is not specific to being in financial hardship.

Nope. I havent banked with them since 2006, so they have my previous address (Moved here in Nov. 2008.)
Then that is why they registered a default because they were unable to contact you. I would claim back the charges as well.

Hello there have not had much luck getting Nationwide to return the fees they charged me whilst running my account starting from 14th August 2008. The account was a bills account that had 200.00 pm paid into it to pay direct debits. The bank account was opened via a branch and the only paperwork signed was to open a current account this is not a current account as it is a chash card account. The bank have said that my charges up until february this year of £678.12 is acceptable stating that I have signed an agreement with them agreeing to thier terms and conditions. Firstly I do not believe I have signed an agreement for this account. Secondly Nationwide has found it very difficult to get statements out to me at my address despite me having similar accounts with the same branch. They have not notified me of when charges where going to be applied and have not run my account in any way that wouild let me take control of the debits. Since this situation started I have been banking sucessfully with Alliance and Leicester without furrther problems and I can only attribute the problems to the way my account information was not made available to me.

The fundimental problems started with Churchill insurance where they agreed to take car insurance payments through this account on the acreed dates I asked for. This rippled through my account causing charges left right and centre despite paying £500.00 cash into the account whilst the account was in credit and asking for the account to be closed I was told that the bank could not close the account as the acount still had charges on it and they could not tell me how much i still owed them!

My account is sitting in feb at -200.00 and so far I have not got there attention at all.

Can someone please help my family is on a low income and we cannot afford to loose this sort of money due to bank theft or as they call it unresolved customer dispute.

    PLEASE PLEASE HELP
  • There are two issues here. (1) You think that because you have a cash card that the account is not a current account. That issue I have to say is nonsense.
issue (2) is that you asked for the account to be closed and it wasn't done because the bank stated that there was charges due to go through the account.
On point 2, were the direct debits cancelled? Was the account in credit substantially in credit to cover the charges going out? Has there been problems with the account address as you do not appear to be receiving statements?

I first went to the CCCS and they did an income and expenditure form, so they probably went off that which was paying out more than i had coming in, but since then I have lost some benefits due to kids ages.

Do you have arrears in essential living costs, such as rent/mortgage/council tax etc ?
