Usual stuff today:
Packed lunch at work,
Tea from stores (chicken teriyaki and egg fried rice with whoopsied chicken cooked the other day)
Couple of Onepoll's
plus, not so much MFW for me, but successfully managed to get my mums tax code changed as she has to wash her work uniform at home. HMRC have amended to take account of the last 6 years so she's about £50 a month better off at the mo#39 - Save £12k in 20250 -
A few things for me.
- Brought lunch to work;
- Made bolognese sauce last night ready for tea tonight. DS is at an open evening for school so he can heat it up and boil some pasta instead of having a McD's (He's 15 so he can easily do this and I might not get back in time to feed him before he needs to be back at school);
- Checked banking & updated spreadsheet;

MFiT-T2 challenge - starting balance of £144875 in July 2011 - aiming for £130k by December 2012
Currently overpaying & hoping to be mortgage free by 20250 -
Hope you find your brisket chickadee, I'm still searching for mine... I'm actually thinking of buying a joint of silverside (??) for this weekend from the Co-op, as I saw that it's half price in there atm. I'll look for the brisket (I'm not giving up!!) in Morrisons or Sainsbugs next week, thanks for the heads up, penny
linz, I've never been into a proper butcher's shop in my life, think I need to broaden my horizons!!
Captain Pie, I never thought to count clipping hair as a 'small thing' but it's actually a really good saving so I'm glad you mentioned that ~ it saves £6 every time I do DH's hair :j- Pay day today so will be transferring £1k over to the Halifax Reward account to get my £5 (& then transferring it back as soon as I get it
)
- Hopefully do some surveys
- Aiming for a no spend Saturday & Sunday

It works out as a massive saving for me. I wear my hair short (grade 2 on top, grade 1 at the sides) and that means getting my hair cut every week/week and a half to keep it tidy.
Paying £8 a time for that would be absolutely crazy, meaning my Wahl clippers have saved me a fortune!
Each time I cut my hair, I stick a fiver into the mortgage overpayments, so I'm cutting two things at onceI'll get my coat :laugh:

My DH is 'follically challenged' and he clips what's left of his hair with clippers himself. Now and again he asks me to neaten his hairline up at the back. He usually asks "Will you finish me off?" to which my usual answer is "Inevitably!" (Well it makes us smile every time...perhaps you have to be there
)
This week I have been to the gym three times - I know not strictly money-saving but certainly counts as getting my moneys-worth. I also have a shower there so it saves on my hot water.
I also brought my lunch in again today. It doesn't feel like much but I like knowing I have all my food and snacks for the day.
NSD today, hopefully. DS has an inset day today so he doesn't even need lunch money. He can have a sandwich from food in the fridge. He will probably go out with his friends, but at least then that will be his own money he is spending.
I checked my internet banking this morning and updated my spreadsheet. No child benefit yet, not sure why. I'll get the reference number when I get home and see if I can find out why.

- Brought lunch to work (I realised that by buying lunch at work I was blowing at least£12 a week-oops, I should be brighter than that!)
- Short latte instead of tall (my Friday treat)
- Had breakfast at home instead of the fry-up at work
- Brought home-made cake to work instead of the naughty cake from the coffee shop
- Picked courgette from the allotment- yay free veg!

Maybe stick to the day job!! :rotfl::rotfl: Good idea to save what you save though, might do that myselfMy DH is 'follically challenged' and he clips what's left of his hair with clippers himself. Lol, my DH is the same, but at least it means it doesn't take long to do his hair. I always leave a 'mohican' effect at the back (he doesn't have any on the top!!) until the last minute ~ gives me a giggle. We also chat about holidays etc to give him the true 'barber experience' :rotfl:
Bought some reduced casserole steak (£3) instead of the half price beef joint (approx £9) so will make a lovely beef stew tomorrow which should do all of us for two days if I pad it out with yorkshire puds & roasties
Nearly forgot, welcome to RedGoose :hello: some good savings already. I'm not sure if I'm just making this up, but could you use your allotment courgettes to make your HM cake (same idea as carrot cake I presume) ~ I'm pretty sure I read this somewhere or maybe saw it on a cookery programme?? Sorry, bit of a vague idea there, feel free to ignore!!

Hi everyone ,
been buying lots of woopsies this week and filled up the freezer with it all , along with free fish from my dad (the fisherman) .
Cut the familys hair (4 people) and phoned up sainsburys helpline
to find out if I had any points on my old sainsburys card ,
they told me I have £32.
my daughter came home from school today , and said her school trip in a years time is a week in new york and will cost £1000 :eek:. So will need to save £20 a week for that.
My dog is ill , and I found out we can have her treated for free by the RSPCA because my husband has been on BASIC sick pay for the past 4.5 months, so that was a relief.
But the good news is, my husbands sick note runs out in 4 weeks time and he will hopefully be returning to work so we can re start paying off the mortgage :j. So relieved.Kindness costs nothing0 -
I thought I would continue the hair theme and tell you I have reduced the frequency of my hair cuts from every 6 weeks to every 8.Pots: House £6966/£7100, Rainy day Complete, [STRIKE]Sunny day £0/£700[/STRIKE], IVF £2523/£2523, Car up-keep £135/£135, New car £5000/£5000, Holiday £1000/£1000, MFW #16 £2077/£3120
