Took my kids and my friend's kids swimming today - only marginally more expensive than just taking my own, because we got some kind of family deal. So my "small thing" is taking bottles of tap water and lots of bags of crisps with us to eat afterwards. I didn't entirely manage to keep them away from the vending machine when we came out, but I did limit it to one item each (and made my own kids pay for their own out of their pocket money) and didn't stop for chips on the drive home, as we've done many times in the past.

Checked my tesco receipt on the way out and found that they'd over charged me for something. Got £13.90 back on double the difference refund!

    * didn't buy lunch at work
    * got a 4 pack of choc bars for £1 in garage on way home for desk drawer instead of 70p a time in the office vending machine
    * got petrol after checking garages I passed yesterday - saved 1p/l so around 30p?
    * made dinner instead of buying takeaway

Went to the shop on my bike instead of in the car - saves petrol, and means I can only buy as much as I can fit in one cycle pannier!
