I love hm mushroom soup but its an awful murky colour but tastes wonderful, then you could freeze the soup. Other than that add mushrooms to everything for the next couple of days - keep them in a paper bag and they will last longer as they will not sweat :rotfl:Mushrooms have terrible hot sweats!Clearing the junk to travel light

I just throw mushrooms in the freezer and then use in stews, soups etc, they aren't good for eating on their own but are fine in stews. Got a big bag in Asda for 10p the other day. Have so far defrosted a few and put in stir fry, added some to soup that ended up blitzed anyway, and used some for creamed mushrooms on toast.Second purse £101/100

Another one here who visits for adult conversation, I read daily but don't post often, I've spent most of last week with my DD's but any conversation with them tends to contain a lot of interruptions from the 6 children under 6 they have, 3 grandchildren & 3 foster children, before anyone thinks we are a one family population explosion. I avoid the posts that irritate or bore me, just as in real life at work, I avoid the people who irritate or bore me.
My car insurance last year was £160, no doubt it will jump hugely this year as have the utility bills. Hubby is working hard in the garden to grow as many veggies as he can, it's all container grown but as there is only 2 of us it will help a lot. Apart from that it's tough, but I'm tougher!

Nope...not provided they are sauted a bit first. When I have a surplus of mushrooms I also saute them briefly in oil, open freeze them and then pop them in one or two of my ziplock freezer bags and into the freezer.
They are fine for cooked dishes - like casseroles. Have nae tried them yet for things like mushroom omelettes, mushrooms on toast sorta things - but imagine they would be okay for that.

Is that our new communal motto now Hester? - ie "Its tough - but I'm tougher"? LOL.

that really relaxed me--i dont know what i said to deserve it!
İ have 9 lessons with screaming kids today and a stinking cold. The climate here is really deceiving--its the proximatry of the mountain s and the sea. İt is generally bright and looking out of my warm flat in the morning i think it is warm outside and put light summery(uk summer) clothes on and venture forth on my scooter but soon realise there is a nip in the air and by the time i get to school-1 mile i am freezing and never seem to warm up for the rest of the day despite the max temps being 20/21 degrees! i have acclimatised to the warmth here in the 5 years since i arrived BECAUSE MY BODY NEEDS TO COPE WİTH PLUS 40 İN SUMMER woops caps!-i feel the cold a lot and always get colds as the seasons change--this is my spring cold!
İ am looking about to get my tickets to come home to the uk in the next week which always breaks my budget and my heart!-my wife and daughter need to get full visas for the uk and new passports every year so it is an expensive deal on top of about 200 quid for each air ticket--i once heard a fact that plane tickets are cheapest 8 weeks before departure and i am going to test that this trip-generally we leave it later!!-if they dont get visas they will go to waste so i am retisant--my wife is ok but my sd is a different kettle of fish as her real father has to give permission and he is not the easiest type!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -

Good morning all
I tend to read in the week when/if I can and post at the weekend when I have more time so find it difficult to keep up with all of the congratulations/commiserations. When things were really tough for me (when I first found out about the very large financial mess OH had got us into) I posted a lot more frequently and found the support invaluable on here :A. On that front we re-mortgaged the debt and then I found out about the rest of the debt, which we are paying off monthly over the next 4 years. We are not yet in a position to start making overpayments but believe me as soon as this is possible we will be doing it. You have supported me through his job changes and through the current situation where he is in a commission only job that has yet to earn him any money (since Feb) and through me working full time Mon to Fri plus an extra shift every weekend so that we can cover all of our bills. You have also supported me through dealing with OH’s depression. The anti depressants are working a treat now and he actually (after a long wait) starts the counselling on Monday. :T.
I have found the advice, support, banter and also the arguments very reassuring on here. Yes sometimes I find that particular topics I cannot contribute to or that I strongly disagree with someone’s opinion so I just skim read/skip a few posts as it always changes topic in a short space of time. Sometimes everyone is in harmony and at others there is disagreement, but this just reflects real life. If you do not agree with something someone has posted you have the choice of responding or ignoring it just the same as if you were face to face with that person.
This thread has reinvented its self several times following some disagreements but it always rises like a phoenix from the flames to continue to welcome newcomers and as an information point for sharing new and old advice on how to cope with the tough times.
I hope that everyone keeps on posting as we all have something positive to add into the mix and a little shake up with differences of opinion can help us to see things from an entirely different point of view.
Back to MSE – my dining table, kitchen windowsills and greenhouse are groaning with the weight of all of the seedlings that are growing so the shopping bill should be greatly reduced this summer. Following the success I had with the leeks last year I have even been organised with the winter veg as well.
Mrs VPI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Mrs Veg Plot What a lovely post, thank you.
You are so right. We can't all agree on everything. Even my DH and I do not agree on everything and we have chosen to be together for over 36 years.
It is helpful to have a place where we can have a private rant and get things off our chests if needed. In the real world people often get bored by others' troubles and if we mention things too often we can be ostracised. Doesn't the saying go "Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone"?
It strikes me that this is a forum where people can share their problems and get some support from those who want to give it. There is enough strife and unrest in the world. I find this place a lovely havenOutside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

...and for a bit of light relief - me - I'm still wondering if one of the "old style" ladies on the Superscrimpers is anyone familiar to us here - and have been laying bets with myself as to whether one of them might be our JackieO here.
Now - c'mon Jackie...you dont have to tell us which one...but I AM curious if we've now seen you "face to face":D
ceridwen Trust me there is no way on Gods earth that I would ever put my fizog on the t.v.Got to be the quickest way to shut down a t.v. station I have a face that only radio could love believe me No its definitely not me as I have yet to see any 'tips' that I would have given .True I am 'of a certain age ' but definitely not into granny zip-upslippers or crimpolene yet.(I can't abide Countdown either ):):):)I have met several of the Old -stylers on here and they can vouch for that.
Several years ago I drove up to Blackpool for an 'OS meet' and on the last night we all had a great time carousing the night away on red wine .My DGS Danny thinks I'm cool for an old bird 'bless him I may be looking 70 up the b&m but inside I am still 24:):) My children have called me Frau Frugal almost since they could talk as they know I like to get good value for my cash no matter what I buy:rotfl: My outlook on life is if I can get better value for what I want then I can afford to spend what I saved on something to enjoy with all of my tribe.Usually the family holiday in August with DD,her OH and the tribe of 5 children So the money I save in the shops ends up as an ice-cream for one of my grandchildren. Far better value to see them grinning from ear to ear and covered in Mr Whippy's:D:D
