  • as part of an M and S meal deal for 10 pound. We chose the biggest one on the shelf which individually priced would have cost us 8 pound . so the meal deal was good, however realised we are now paying big bucks just for a bit of chicken dinner.and thought that really we still waste alot of food,so today used up last slices of bread made beans on toast for lunch and grated the last of the cheddar sat down with nice cup of tea.with the chichen because we ate the side dish yesterday with another meal will cook roast pots use them up , a quarter of a cabbage , 0ne carrot left in the fridge .and extra tin of peas and carrots with a tin of value rice pudding for afters. tomorrow will use up 2 peppers from the fridge an onion, and eat up some frozen fish with frozen chips.i realised today that food now is so very very epensive that it is heartbreaking and you just can t afford to waste any of it at all .so from now on we are going to use up absolutely everything daily aswell as going back to cooking and freezing all our own meals and even feel that the once in a blue moon meal out with our friends will now be a come dine with me meal in doors which they dont know yet that they have my yummy cooking to eat what ever that may be but will make a great effort to make them something tasty;)
  • only a few years backs Tesco did a whole chicken for about 1.99 but now chickens are so dear and i cant believe prices are now as high as 8 pound , its only a bit of roast dinner.

    Hi

Another lurker here. Just wanted to say that I love reading this thread. I feel like I'm part of a conversation with neighbours in my own street.x

I speak on the telephone for eight hours a day , five days a week but any chit chat other than the initial scripted call greeting is not allowed. I can speak all day without having a conversation as we aren't even allowed to chat to the other call handlers between calls as it creates too much background sound. I love this thread for the support and friendship even though I do more reading than posting at the moment :T

Had a minor moral dilemma today - went into my local A!di - at check out, it came to £34.56 - I was pleased that I managed to pay £4 odd using a purseful of small change to a very patient check out lady - but when I got to the car with my shopping - I realised that I was clutching my list and £30 in notes  I badly need some work trousers & shoes and for an instant I was tempted - but I knew that if I didn't take it back that I'd never be able to face the staff in there again.

Had some good bargains - Sainsbugs are selling 500g bags of pasta for 9p and Aldi pasta sauce is currently reduced to 18p :)
:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

Just back from a marathon Ikea trip and they had a stall with a local veg growing group in foyer, they were showing how to grow veg (and in particular potatoes) in the blue Ikea 40p bags, cant believe I hadnt thought of it before, but ideal and certainly cheaper than the special growing bags I have been buying to use.

JackieO....that's some list! Will confirm for doubters that Jackie has not yet appeared on SuperScrimpers...although all that rubbish about having a face for radio is not to be believed!

I like this thread and try not to miss reading every day, don't often post here, really appreciate the OS advice, don't agree with everyone but think that life would be very dull if we all thought the same...loved Mrs Veg plot's post.

I'm having my favourite sort of OS afternoon - the sort where you end up with stuff to eat!
I bought a butternut squash from Lidl the other day for £1-03; I've used just over half of it to make a spicy soup, the rest is going to be the main event for a Thai curry and the seeds will be toasted and sprinkled with salt for a snack later - not bad! I think I might go mad and make the tea loaf that was posted on here the other day too!
The butternut squash seeds I planted have burst forth and seem to be growing at a gallop so I'm looking forward to picking those later in the year. I've never grown them before so fingers crossed.
When we were clearing the jungle we bought last year (which is now very close to resembling a real garden) we discovered a couple of gooseberry bushes and blackcurrants which have all gone crazy this year now they've been exposed to the light, so hopefully a good crop to be had there if we can keep the birds off. Don't you just love the Spring?
  • newbie here ..... have been reading for weeks and weeks, recent events have made me think, i should post.

JackieO that is one heck of a list!!!!!! you have inspired me to do something very similar tomorrow!

Mrswive - how lucky to find the goosberry and blackcurrents, we walked the hedgerows last summer and made a lot of Jam, homemade is soo much nicer!!
Not in debt and it WILL remain that way!

I have used laundry bags for several years. Ikea bags are probably cheaper than these were originally
