I haven't been off sick since 2003 when I had 2 days off with an ear infection, it was a bad one that started on a weekend when I couldn't stand up without falling down was off sick Monday and Tuesday then returned to work

i have had the odd illness since then but have always seemed to be ill when I am off on holiday or over a weekend

    2002 - 2008 - about 10 days in 4 different periods
    2008 - 64 days following surgery
    dec 2009 - 3 days
    nov 2010 - 5 days
    feb 2011 - 1 day
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

I'm amazed that some people never had one of those tummy bug when you are sick every hour and running to the toilet with diarrhea as often, never had an infection that left them with a fever high enough not to be sure where they are, never had an accident, and no effect of long term conditions. Let me think, maybe they do suffer from one condition, I think it is called selective memory :)

lol,I have a print out from RM of my sick leave for my whole time
would you like me to post it verbatim?
    I rarely get properly ill
last time i had a proper flu like illness was a couple of years ago
    floored me good and proper
but it happened when i was off for 3 days.so i got over the worst of it then
coughs and sniffles dont really require me to be off ill,do you?
my worst time off was for torn chest cartilage at about 6 weeks
however had i been in a non phyysical job then i would have been back at work in around 4 weeks

    this is the thing,times change
i must have went 12+ years without a sick day
then i had my torn chest cartilage and then torn cornea not long after
theres also the issue of what job you do
if for example you work in an office then you can work through some illnesses/injuries
whereas in a physical/outdoor job its not so easy

I think I have probably had more days iff where I work now than I've ever had in my entire life! Firstly due to severe vomiting during pregnancy (and no not just your standard morning sickness... I ended up in hospital on a drip and was then medicated through the rest of my pregnancy...)
And recently for stress... *sigh* long story but caused by things at work. Worst thing is I HATE being stuck at home. I'd much rather be at work working... Sure I get colds and stuff (and tummy bugs - thanks to small person dragging every bug home to share with us LOL she's generous like that!)
I do honestly think parents get ill more - you're run down, your child brings home loads of bugs and viruses and inevitably because of the very close contact when THEY are poorly YOU catch it... *sigh* Maybe that's just me though ;)

my ex never gets any kiddie germs  Im guessing because she is from a large family
I as an only child seem much more susceptible
my boy got a cold/bug in December and it hit me hard
had it for a few weeks but still managed work
dropped a few lbs too :D

I think what you are saying is true for some people, I also think that lots of people who state they have had 1 day in 10 years or whatever are perhaps part-time workers who have probably been ill on their days off so not reported as sickness absense.

I'm one of those people that feels guilty even when I am too ill to get in to work :rotfl:

'Sickies' are definitely more prevalent when someone is unhappy at work.

    ;)
So , you are saying that the figures people are quoting here are inaccurate ?

I can assure you that mine are not !

In my last job the reason for my absence was quinsy (the sever throat condition) ;)

    Ouch!!!!;);)

I had one once in 2006 - had another in January on a Bank Holiday:o.
Took eight days off in 2009 (one illness resulted in hospitalisation), four days in 2006 (for the bug above) prior to that, last sick day was in 2003. Yes I've had days when I'm not 100% and days I went home early (after manking sure the crucial stuff was done) but no I don't have selective memory
