Quite a lot unfortunately!! Up to the end of October last year hadnt been off sick in 6 months but then got a tummy bug, went back and then was off sick for 2 weeks after my accident (went back before I was supposed to though for my own sanity) then got a vomiting bug last month again!!! Had tonsillitis last March, and was also signed off sick by the hospital with a chest infection last January. It used to be that if we exceeded a certain amount of days we'd get called for a disciplinary meeting but thats had to stop as the union objected to us not being allowed a union rep.
I dont usually ring in sick unless I feel really grotty, unless its vomiting etc when we get disciplined if we go in with it.

Well I have been known to be terrible for sickies lol. Well in the past. My cinema job I took loads of sickies due to various reasons, being run down a lot a my hours varied day to day. could be working a night shift, then an evening shift, then a day, evening, day.etc. This made me ill a lot, I just wanted some stability!

In the past year I haven't had 1 sick day! Although I've had about 8/9 weeks off in total being unemployed (not all at once though, so many different jobs)

I can only recall the past six years (I have been in same job 11 yrs) but off the topo of my head:

    - 3 days 2005 (Epilepsy, which is normally controlled)
    - 2 days 2009 (Bad cold)

So thats just under 1 a year average

    Hi,

When I was a permie - my sick leave was quite high - sometimes more than 10 days in a year ... but since I started contracting back in 2006 & therefore don't get paid if not working, it has dropped to 1-2 days a year if that .... really need to be very ill to take time off.

About 2-3 days a year - normally due to colds/flu type bugs although I normally drag myself in, unless I feel really bad. Last year, I had about 4-5 day, that was because I was pregnant and got cold/flu type bugs and wasn't allowed to take anything.

I work in HR and I'm amazed the amount of time people have off sick. I'm not saying its not genuine, but to give you an example: we have an employee who worked on Agency for about 18 months and attendance was fine. Within 7 months of becoming permanent (and benefitting from my organisations generous sick pay entitlement of 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay), she was off sick with depression. Her sick pay is due to be exhausted and she is now ready to come back to work. Again, I must stress that I'm not saying it isn't genuine, but its not the first time this has happened and certainly won't be the last.

I'm amazed that some people never had one of those tummy bug when you are sick every hour and running to the toilet with diarrhea as often, never had an infection that left them with a fever high enough not to be sure where they are, never had an accident, and no effect of long term conditions. Let me think, maybe they do suffer from one condition, I think it is called selective memory :)

So , you are saying that the figures people are quoting here are inaccurate ?

I can assure you that mine are not !

In my last job the reason for my absence was quinsy (the sever throat condition) and the reason i was off work wasnt because of the quinsy itself as i would have been just as able to work on even with such a painful throat condition...the reason i had to take the time off work was because the GP prescribed me "Voltarol" medication and this zonked me out lol i was a zombie for a few days:rotfl:

My other period of absence in my second job was when i sprained my ankle and i was physically unable to go into work as my job is a manual job which cannot be done without walking around.

Not everyone "invents" stories to post on here you know;)
The loopy one has gone :j
