  • Whatever your opinions are about the new system the real problem is the lack of jobs.
If i heard IDS this morning correctly he said 5.5 million need to be getting into work. He also said there were 0.5 million jobs in the jobcentre.
So what are we all going to do then - Job share?

Why would anyone have had a child with such a person?

I am sure there are women all over the world asking themselves the same question.

EDIT: and men! I know a few men who have been left in this situation also

I am not sure that I like the fact that you appear to be insinuating that it is the parent who is left's fault! You clearly have no idea on the 'single parent' issue on which you are attempting to debate.

If I thought you were in the slightest bit interested I would attempt to enlighten you, but I don't think you really want to know.

[QUOTE What a waste of money! Why not put it into their own system to make sure it can't be defrauded and correct faults in *their system* eg. by improving staff training so mistakes are limited. How much will these costly investigations cost and where does that money come from?

I agree with this, surely by spending money retraining staff and spending extra time on contacting those people/Dr's/specialists on claims would result in less tribunals.

If I remember correctly £600m+ to replace the DLA, plus the amount it costs to go to tribunal as I am sure there will be a massive increase in this over the next few years.[/QUOTE]

I know the csa computer system was the biggest joke too. The dwp apparently will be coming to us hb assessors and ask for training then we are sacked. Takes the Mick really.

Like I said earlier great idea on paper in reality it won't work and I really cannot see the systems being in for oct 2013

Something else just occurred to me re: 'Assumed Income'...

    So If say I say I'm working 40 hours / week - then they 'assume' my income is therefore 40 x £5.93 x 52 = £12,334.40.

So are they going to tax me on that figure - even if in reality my net profit for the year is 5K???

So not only would I lose credits - they would also take money from me for ACTUALLY earning 5K?

This really has to be a joke doesn't it...

50 % is an exaggeration plus those on benefits pay vat too

Disagree. Spot on in my case.

£50k = £35k takehome = 30% tax. VAT is 20%. Seems straightforward to me and valid to say 'a working person is taxed 50%'. Yes not everything has VAT however my view is things balance out i.e. food versus petrol versus alcohol etc coming in @ 20% average.

I hope one of those 50,000 people 'impacted' by the laughable £26k cap on benefits appreciates me going to work all year to pay for them :). Nice to know I'll get sweet f.a if I lose my job tho! gotta love England.

EDIT: Actually it's probably more if I factor in £1650 council tax and £230 road tax per year :(. Damn stealth taxes. This probably evens out those on average of 30k = 26% tax + 20% VAT + stealth to 45-50%.

Some of us had children with men who, at the time, were loving and decent husbands and fathers. They just didn't stay this way :(

I have been fighting for a year to this day for maintenance for my 2 boys from their dad. When we first separated he paid week in week out without a problem and was more than happy to support them. Then he met someone else and coincidentally since that day, he has never paid another penny for them despite working full time pretty much the whole time.

  • Oh and can IDS specify how many of those 500,000 jobs are actually full time and permanent?

SO many jobs in the Jobcentre are for less than 16 hours so in effect unable to sign off and receive tax credits. I think IDS does realise this so is the idea that if you do say 10 hours a week does this new credit mean you wont be classed as unemployed?
If so surely the employee will still need benefits. He wont be paying tax or national insurance either.
So what kind of improvement is this?

Very true, people change and It does tend to happen a lot when they meet their next partner, that they will withdraw from their children-with-ex's lifes.

  • I can never understand why mse towers put threads like this on here, after all its already turned into a debate and has little to do with help on benefits, its far too early to work out the effects on individuals and as such should be debated on DT not here.
