I was with you all the way in your clear and well put reply about single parents.

Then you went and spoiled it all by blaming another group of people instead.

To be honest that part was more tongue in cheek - as in if we HAVE to blame and single out a group of people - why do we welcome people into an already overwhelmed country/system?

There are so many people in need. Blaming groups of people isnt the way forward - education certainly is.

It might be fair to say that IS the case in certain areas where there is a far higher precentage of immigrants than others?.

Funny how the better off issue comes down to the transport costs often off setting (sometimes more so) any gain in money terms. In some areas I think there is or was schemes that allowed the unemployed free bus travel passes to visit the job centre more often to look for work and go for more interviews etc.

So why cant the same be kept or introduced for those getting a job for say the first 12 months at least?. Lets face it the council budgets subsidise a lot of bus and train services these days anyways. So if allowing free public travel for new workers for the first 12 months can be introduced it will bring more money in taxes therefor more to the economy in the long term as there is then also the clear advantage money wise to return to work.

It not like the bus or train companies would loose out as the unemployed would probably make little contribution to there income anyways. But free passes for a limited period would benefit public transport in the long term as once the passes would expire after 12 months those returning to work would have noticed other benefits from returning to work much more than the extra money alone would. So would be far more likely to say in employment.

unfortunately we have a situation where working people are losing 50% of their wages in direct & indirect taxes , we simply cannot afford the current level of 'empathy' , apart from those whose disabilities prevent ANY type of work , everybody else should be looking after themselves, and not relying on me to feed and clothe their families!

Absolutely. Would it really would be not so much different financially to be on benefits as we get hammered so hard - the Goverment are bringing about an apathetic attitude.

  • When i went to my meeting at the JCP after being put into ESA Work Focussed Group the advisor was telling me when i was better i could start an Amazon business or E Bay selling as all his friends were doing it!

So trust me its not only people on forums advocating it!

I am highly suspicious of any change the Tories are set to implement. I am not going to be hoodwinked by their "improvements". With his background, what can Cameron know about the difficulties faced when moving in and out of jobs?

And Tony Blair and Gordon Brown did, right? They were "men of the people", were they? Envious, chippy nonsense.
We should all practice more empathy not less during these heavy cuts.
A rubbish phrase which means nothing.
It's time we stopped using inflammatory bullsh t phrases like "lifestyle choice" and "scroungers".
The inability of people like you to even recognise the problems which lead to phrases like the above being coined is one of the big issues today.
The *majority* of people are genuine and do want to contribute and we should start from that premise,
Oh, you've polled every claimant in the UK as to their mindset, have you? Silly me.

    What a completely awful post.

James is not exactly an expert on paying tax, I would take his opinion with a pinch of salt!
