Ideas for jewellery Making for Beginners

Hi, I did buy some stretchy charm bracelets from beadsupermarket.co.uk (£2.85 each)...but then I went into my local Primark...These big chunky ones were only £1 each. They were in the jewellery section next to little clip on charms (also £1 each).
It would be quite tricky (I think anyway) to thread chunky chain onto elastic and then knot it securely.

I use 0.6mm clear elastic and double it over...thread the beads (4-8mm) and letters on then double knot the ends together and dab a bit of super-glue in the knot, then quickly slip a bead over the knot (if that makes sense).
I have had a few special orders to complete today.....No time for telly tonight.
I hope my friend likes the items.

I really like the bracelet its really lovely and pretty xLucylema x :j0 -
hi RachyD
your bracelets are fab! Would love to know how you make the adjustable band? I've looked at several tutorials and still can't quite grasp itJust wondering if you can point me in the direction of an idiot's guide?
thanks0 -

Learning the skills is the easy bit, sourcing beads and findings that are nice, good quality, but inexpensive is the tricky bit

shiprob - hope you don't mind me asking about the charm bracelet - the bracelet itself, did you buy it like that or have you used extra-big jump rings over ordinary chain? I just use chunky chain for mine but sometimes I think some of my designs would benefit from the bracelet itself looking chunkier and although I've seen that type of bracelet I've not come across any tutorial as to how to acheive that kind of look. thanks, sorry to be a pain
Thanks very much x0 -
I have had lots of fun today. I made a neclace, bracelet and earrings using Swarovski crystals. The set really sparkles.

Tomorrow I will be making handbag charms. Then I need to get creative and think about more "Festive" things for school fayres etc...as I will need to do some ordering from the Far East.
So far I have in mind....Angels, snowflakes...
Anyone else have any ideas?:oSlimming world new starter 2/1/17:D:DWeight loss so far 5 stone 8 lbs

I have been making a tiara/headband with beaded snowflakes today. I'll post a picture when I can.
Got me thinking about christmas too. Last year I made some wire christmas tree's from some green wire and a few beads. I dont think I have any pictures but I might make some more this year0 -

Don't want to upset anyone, or rain on any parades, but please be careful when buying metal beads and findings from China and Hong Kong, in the UK (and the EU), anything you sell has to conform to the EU nickel directive, ie it must contain very little or no nickel (as this is the thing that most people will have a reaction to), so any metal beads and findings sold in this country will comply with it, but you can't be sure what metal is being used for imported stuff.
So you could end up buying something that contains nickel (or other things), and if a customer reacts to it, you don't have much of a leg to stand on in defending yourself. (even more so if you don't have public or product liability insurance)
Same goes for the so called .925 sterling that can be bought very cheaply (especially the 'pandora' style beads from overseas), if they are cheap then it's probably cos they are not real sterling silver (especially given the price of it at the moment), and if you are selling them as .925 sterling, and Trading Standards check it out, you could get in a lot of trouble with them.
Just a friendly warning0 -
I haven't bought any "metal" findings from the Far East....just glass, crystal and plastic beads.
I have been sourcing beads via ebay, so its hit and miss with delivery times. But so far so good. Some items have been arriving as quickly as 2 weeks from the auctions ending.Slimming world new starter 2/1/17:D:DWeight loss so far 5 stone 8 lbs

Hi ictiger! Thank you very much
The adjustable bracelet is made using leather cord (you can use imitation though) and slip knots. There's plenty of tutorials online but they are a bit confusing sometimes! Firstly I'd make sure you're using something that's chunky and not floppy like wool/cotton as that makes it a nightmare when you're learning. If you hold the cord in position exactly as it shows and don't get the cords too close to each other then you'll suprise yourself with how easy it is when you've followed the instructions a few times! I use this one but I don't suppose it's the clearest, lol! http://www.landofodds.com/store/slipknot.htm Google slip knots and I'm sure you'll find a better one - hth
