    QUOTE:-
I resent being charged £30 when in fact all it takes is 1 x envelope .. 1 x 1st Class stamp .. 1 x A4 piece of paper and 30 seconds for someone to press the 'Enter' key on a pc to make it print off a pre-defined charges template ENDQUOTE

May surprise you to know that someone dosn't even need to press the 'Enter' key, and it takes less than 30 seconds. It's all totally automatic, even putting the paper in the envelope. I am still surprised that the banks havn't entered as a defence the vast fortunes they have spent in investing in all this hard and software as a justification of the level of charges.
Whoever said "it's only money" had too much of it!;)

Nat West under my belt £4532, LTSB, £7300, Barclays, £2300, First Bank of America, £3200. Rates overcharge £1700. Just working on Egg

Firstly, sorry if this has been answered but with 600+ posts I'd have no chance of finding my answer today lol.

I want to claim back my charges as I must be owed thousands. However I've been terrified of doing it as they (Natwest) may close my accounts which have large overdrafts that probably wouldn't be covered.

When I spoke to my mum she said that the bank would NOT close the account as I have a large loan with them.

Could anyone tell me if this is true, or if they have been in the same position.

Again sorry if this has already been answered.

Natwest haven't been closing accounts, but this doesn't mean this wont change. They would be within their rights to.

If your loan is in good order (no missed payments etc), they shouldn't be able to close this. They may just ask for the account to close.

Thanks, there are no arrears on our loan and the money comes out of our account with them.

I probably wont risk re-claiming my charges then. I could never pay off the overdrafts if they closed it and I'd be in worse financial doo doo than I am now. I don't think my credit rating is good enough now for another bank to transfer my od's.

Sucks though... the cash would have helped!!!! :(

Yeah, I had to wait to log the claim til today as it is payday Yipee. Hope all goes well for you. Apart from costing me £120 it was quite painless really and I hope I will get it all back.
  • Have read through all this thread but just a little overwealmed

My charges with Natwest work out at £2408 and am wondering if it's worth the hassle of adding on the interest before I send the next letter. Is there any negative reason not to? I seem to be reading conflicting views. Also do you simply enter the charges ie £35 from say 10/02/03 into the bank charges interest calculator and this will give the correct interest? or is it more complicated than that?

Thanks for all the tips/advice so far :)
  • If you add the interest you won't get an offer including the interest as the bank is only legally obliged to pay that if it goes to court but its worth using a bargaining tool.

Yes input each charge into the calculator with the date and it will automatically work out the interest.
