Hi
Sister had 2 accounts with Natwest back in 2000 which she defaulted on. I think most of the money owed was in charges etc. Last letter she has was the April in 2001. Think most of the chargees would be from December 2000 till June 2001.
If she sent off for the statements tomorrow enclosing the £10 what would the cut off date from when she can claim charges?....tomorrows date???...or when she receives the statements?
Also, should she send a letter for each account with a £10 cheque in each or do together? Want to do it as quickly as possible.
Is it worth doing or not?
Thanks

Hi people,
I'm in the process of claiming back £1238 of charges from Natwest. After writing my first letter, they came back with an offer of £361, which I refused. I then got a letter from them telling me that my complaint had been passed on to their Customer Relations dept, and a few days later, I received another letter offering me £817.
I'm not sure whether to take it or not. It's about 2/3 of my claim, and it's a fair chunk of money, but I'm swaying towards pushing for the whole lot. What experiences have others had with Natwest in this situation? Do they generally give in quite quickly once you start the court process, or are they likely to drag it out and make me sweat?
Also, if I decide to go for the whole lot, should I write back to them telling them so, so that they have one more chance to give me the lot, or should I just go straight to the court process and add on the interest?
Thanks for any advice,

Natwest have so far offered £264 at the first stage, £1300 at the letter before action stage, and £1700 when the court papers were first issued. This was all on a claim for £2600.
All of these offers have been turned down. I am now preparing the next stage of the court process. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Paulxo wrote:So, NatWest did the same to me.
I got overdrawn, had the snowball effect, etc., and then not knowing what to do, NatWest called me up and suggested I take a loan, from them, to pay off the overdraft (that'd been created by them!).
Desperate, I accepted this. However, a few months later I was no longer working and fell behind in the monthly payments. Guess what? I had then defaulted on a loan and this went straight into my credit file. Over the next 2 years, I managed to pay this all off, and I am now free of NatWest. But, my credit file still reads as a default and I have trouble getting credit.
It makes me furious to think of this.
After my success with Nationwide, I wrote to NatWest. I have written to the head office, and my branch.
Nothing.
I have just been told by another kindly moneysaver another address in Edinburgh, and I'm now writing to this. They can take me to court, whatever, I'm prepared to fight this one as it did a lot of damage.
The cheek of them offering to loan me the money to pay back their illegal charges. So I was paying interest on an amount that was unlawfully high.
It's scandalous.
The same thing happened with me but at Barclays. Have now sent of first letter asking for statements but am still paying off the Resolve loan they insisted I take out! This is at 16.34%. Anything I can do about that?We finally did it! Debt free 28/6/10 :T  :T :beer:0 -
Hi,
I closed my 2 Natwest current & 1 Savings account last November as I was not happy with their charges. They would charge me £25-30 for being a few pound overdrawn etc. I was really discusted with then I wrote several letters complaining but nothing was done so I closed all my accounts with them. I had been a customer with them for over 12 years. I even knew my bank manager as he was a close friend of my dads. I loved the treatment I used to get off my local branch, I knew all the staff. My parents are still with Natwest now.
I know a lot of people have been claiming £1000s in charges. Im I still possible to claim? If I could I think I could claim back at least £1000.
Please help :-)0 -
Yes you can claim on closed accounts. If you don't still have the account numbers its best to give your date of birth along with name and address when sending for the information held on you. The cheque for £10 for the data will cover all three accounts you had with them.
Other people's experiences with Nat West are in this thread, just start with the first step in Martin's article and good luck0 -
Just received a letter this morning, in response to my first request for charges, and it says that they're sorry I was unhappy, blah blah, and that they're waiting for statements so they can look into the case. Also says she's enclosed a leaflet about how they deal with complaints but that was missing.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0
