  • Hi. This is my first post, so I'm sorry if it's in the wrong place. I have been thinking for some time about trying to reclaim my charges from Natwest, but the account is now closed, and has been for some time. They completely screwed me over with charge after charge on top of each other, then stopped direct debits, and before I knew it, I was owing them some serious money, from one tiny mix-up on my part! I went and spoke to an advisor, to try and sort it out, and find a way forward to pay it back, but he just shrugged his shoulders, and couldn't care less. I asked why the charges were so high, only to be told someone had to be paid to put the letter in an envelope and put a stamp on it! I couldn't pay it, so in the end the account got sent to a debt collection company, and I'm still trying to pay it off now.
Can I try to claim the money, or do you reckon it's a lost cause?
Would be very grateful for any help you can offer.
    Thanx. And hello. Jo.

Doesn't matter if the account is closed, if the charges were within the last 6 years, start the process. Read the sticky at the top of this forum, it has a link to the article detailing each step.
  • On three occassions I've been charged £30 for not having sufficient funds to pay University accomodation fees - where the money is taken out over a series of scheduled dates.

There was money in the account, just not the £450-ish fee's required by the Uni.

    Do I have a case?

    Yes! It's a penalty charge.

Yesterday my Natwest account went over its 950 limit and I transferred some money from another account to bring it back into line. Today the same account went back over the limit because of a phone insurance direct debit that was free for 3 months but has now kicked in took me 30p back over the limit. I have again transferred money from another account to cover it. Will I get stung with two charges of 28 quid, which I obviously can't afford, especially with Christmas coming up? Am sick to the back teeth with late switch payments taking me over my overdraft limit. I must have been charged nearly 200 in charges over the past six months but I find that if I have carry cash everywhere I end up spending it needlessly. My own fault I know.

  • Hi all,
I sent off a Dpa letter to Natwest bank, with my £10 cheque, asking for my statements etc. I used the standard letter thats available to all.
Today they have sent a reply which I was not expecting, and am a bit unsure how to reply.
    Here goes.......
Re your recent letter, i would like to advise you that the only way you will receive a full, and comprehensive list of charges and fees is via copy statements. A full subject access request is copies of any letters that have been sent between yourselves and the bank, any computerised prints, amongst other paperwork we hold.
In the fourth paragraph of your letter, you have mentioned you would like access to all data held by Natwest bank. This letter is to clarify if you are looking for a full subject access request. the fee for this is £10.
If you would like a copy of your bank statements, I will be happy to arrange this and they will be sent out directly. The fee for this is £5.
We will await your instruction to advise us whether your request is for a full subject access request or copy statements.
If your decision is for copy statements, your £10 fee will be returned on receipt of your £5 fee.
    .
Does the £10 I sent them, not cover all costs? And please can someone assist in how to reply.
  • If they are happy to send out all your statements for the years you have requested for just £5 I would accept that as it will be easier for you to list your charges from the statements.
