There is not a lot you can say to them. If they want to take the charge, they will take it.
Regarding waiting for a response till February. Don't be delayed, or put off by the bank trying to dictate their own timetable to you. If you gave a 14 day dealine for a response, if they don't offer to settle within this time, move onto the next stage. At all stages, keep to your own schedule, not any the bank wants.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Thank you.
I'm going to wait to see how helpful this manager is before I write a new letter, incase I need to add this charge in too. I just hope they have an ounce of decency to help, I need to keep the money in for bills!
I'll have part two sent to them by tomorrow morning0 -
Over at https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk There is a post about "Right of Appropriation" ..............................
There is a process called the "Right of Appropriation" - this allows you to assign funds entering your account to specific events and needs. This is for ANY funds, not just benefits...
Some banks do not understand this process since it is not very often used. You might need to explain it when handing in the letter.
Also, whilst we can try this, there are 2 possible problems;
1) Ideally, you should give the bank 7 days notice. If they are aware, they could disregard the request.
2) They may just disregard it anyway and swallow up the money. You would then have to complain and involve the banking Ombudsman etc and, eventually, get it resolved. This could take a few weeks and would not solve the immediate problem.
This is the letter they recommend sending (edit the parts in bold to fit your circumstance). If you want more info on this, you can join the forums over there (free) and ask about this process....................................
RIGHT OF APPROPRIATION
Dear Sir/Madam,
ACCOUNT NUMBER: xxxxxxxxx
I am writing to inform you that I am due to have a Tax Credit payment of £xxx paid into my account on xx/xx/xx, and I wish to use my first right of appropriation for this money, for the following purposes;
Rent £xx
Utilities bills £xx
Housekeeping money £xx
I will withdraw the money on the day that it is deposited for the above use, and I would be grateful if you would ensure that any other payments out of my account do not interfere with this withdrawal.
Yours faithfully,

We claimed, we argued, we screamed at them, we rang them every day, we did not take them to court, we pleaded with them.....
And today, after 2 months, we got a letter offering us ("as a gesture of goodwill and without admission of liability or error" :rolleyes: :rolleyes: or course. £2,362.21 for our main account and £1033.00 for our other account with them..:D(This is more than we asked for £Requested £3033.00 - Offered £3395.21
RESULT;) :cool:
Which we are signing acceptance and sending back in the post today without delay. They will credit to our account which will clear our overdraft and give us a nice tidy sum of just over £450 for our troubles. And they have not asked us to close our account...... yet, however we are now fully up and running in our new account - we have no overdraft and are going to keep a close eye on everything in the future.
Thanks to this site we are now back on track and sorting finances out at last.:T :T :T

Yes. If you follow the link from my post (the one at the bottom of my post), you'll see they also quoted some legislation about benefits. Something about, they are not allowed to deprive you of your benefits because of charges.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I loathe Natwest. They've waited until the very last second to enter a defence to my claim (i.e. about half an hour ago), and I was so sure that they weren't going to, considering today is the day their time is up, and it's so close to the end of the working day.
Can anyone tell me what the process is now, or point me in the direction of the information? What forms do I have to fill in, and what information do I need to have ready?
Thanks0 -
