  • Well done Amethyst24

my sar request is going in the post today. Here's to a rocky but hopefully sucessfull road.
  • Hi All,

Just found this site, looking about to see how many people are in my position. Don't feel so alone now!

On the 22nd NOVEMBER I sent my first letter to Natwest Bank threatening court action if no reply within fourteen days, claiming charges of around 3800 plus interest if this went to court. I Received an aknowledgement letter saying that they will look into the matter and reply shortly. On the 9th December I received an offer of 1100. I wrote back to them offering them another fourteen days to refund all charges to my account. I kept chasing them over and over again until the 14th January when they advised that they do not expect to reply within another FIVE weeks because of the backlog. On the 14th January I submitted the claim on Moneyclaimonline website for charges plus interest plus court fees. Looking at this site I now know they will enter a defence, BRING IT ON!
I am so determined to win over them, the money sounds good, but the principle of it is also very good!
My advice is to not wait around like I did, they aren't going to answer quickly, only my advice though for what it is worth! I will let you know how I get on though. The idea of a bailiff is very interesting!

Well done being that patient and determined.

    Others to come!
  • Just to let you know that I've had a holding letter from the customer care section.

They said they were investigating into the case and will respond by 30 Jan!!

  • Just like to say thanks for all of the information I have obtained from here, sent my letter, which I got from the BBC website, to the bank on Jan 15th. Last night I received a letter from Mr S Higley offering me the full £586 that I claimed (obviously as a good will gesture). Just sending of the acceptance now.

    Cheers again.

Ignore this. Move ahead at your own timetable, do not let the bank slow you down or put you off. When your own deadline is up, move onto the next step of the process.

  • I found out last night how to 'rub salt in their wounds', if they take over 56 days from the first date of query, i.e. first refund letter, not statement letter, it is against FSA regulations and you can complain to the Financial Ombudsman, anybody else know of this, and is it correct?
  • After successfully claiming £280 of the £420 Barclays owed me for bank charges I have decided to have a go at Natwest for £1,171.00. With all the great advise and encouragement from this site I know I will be successful.
Am sending my first letter requesting charges back today to the branch but copying in the Customer Relations branch at Borehamwood. Will keep you posted.

  • Hello,

I am a first time poster and need a bit of advice.

I have sent the 2 template letters to natwest requesting a refund of charges + interest totalliing £1659, I sent them both to the branch where my account was set up.

I recieved a response to my first letter at the beginning of January telling me "they were sorry and they were looking into it" i chose to ignore the letter as it was not a satisfactory response and sent out the second letter.

the 14 day deadline is up tomorrow, i have no idea what to do next, i looked at the moneyclaim website and am now a bit worried/confused.

I have started my application with money claim but am concerned about contact details, what address do I use for natwest when they ask me for the defendants details?

Do i send natwest another letter before i start court proceedings letting them know?

Am I liable to end up in court because i was receiving referral charges sometimes £75 a month??

you need to use Natwest's Registered Office address for serving Court Papers . It is 135 Bishopsgate, London EC2M 3UR. Since you issued a 14 day letter and they didnt respond, you should just go straight to court. Follow the advice on this site, read all the sections concerning claiming charges and fill in the form properly giving details of the charges they levied, why they said they levied them and why they're unfair (because they are excessive under the relevant law). You can find all the information you need on this website. Best of luck.
