  • Hi - just a quick question. I had verbal confirmation from a Customer Services Manager on 7 June that an offer letter for the full amount I am claiming (£974) was sent from NatWest's offices in Edinburgh on 1 June. The day after I also had an email from one of the Customer Relations Team (replying to an email of mine) and he confimed that an offer had been logged on the system (good - because they won't now subsequently be able to deny it!)

It is now 9 June and I haven't received this letter yet! Has anyone else experienced a long or long-ish delay in receiving the actual offer letter? If so, how did you take things forward? Also, how long did it take for the funds to be credited after you returned the acceptance?

I am happy that I won't have to go down the MCOL route (although I was fully prepared to and I made that absolutely clear in all my letters) and that NatWest has not attempted to fob me off with a reduced offer but I just want it all to be over now!

Thanks and good luck to everyone else who is still waiting to get their offer.

  • Hi all,
Firstly I am seeing quite a few success stories from natwest! I started my claim on 30-05-07 with the first letter from martins web site. Received a letter back saying they were considering the claim for £779.14 Inc Interest however that it would take 6-7 weeks to respond?!

Do I send the second letter or wait to see if they get back to me. would consider the letter with the 25% off offer but don't want to give them to much if they are giving more?

    Cheers and good luck!
  • Hi Grant1983. I think the first thing to say is that everyone has to do what is right from them and what they feel comfortable with. Personally, I was prepared to give NatWest 56 days to respond to my request for a refund (they did reply within 14 days to the 1st letter but only to state that they had a backlog to deal with and as per FO - or was it FSA ? - guidelines they had 56 days.) However, I kept up the pressure during that 56 day period by emailing, faxing and writing to various Customer Relations Managers including Stuart Higley to "check on the progress" as it were! When the 56 deadline was looming I then starting sending firmly worded reminders that they only had another x number of days and that I would go down the MCOL route if I did not get a full offer by 6 June.

I was prepared/could afford to wait it out. However, I would not have accepted anything but the full amount. Personally, I wouldn't negotiate with them or show any sign that I would be prepared to accept less!

As you will have seen, other people have stuck to their own timetable, which is fine. I took a view that I would go along with NatWest timetable but I would make bloody sure they didn't just stick my claim in a pile with all the others who were allowing them the full 56 days. I can't say that approach would work for everyone but it did for me. I think you have to be realistic about your account and the relationship you have with NatWest. Obviously I had problems - hence why I managed to incur so many charges. But in the last 2 -3 years I've had none at all - partly due to a significant increase in my income but also down to better cashflow management on my part. I am no longer what the banks would probably term a "serial offender" in their usual unsympathetic way!! Also, I have the Advantage Gold Account, plus I have an overdraft facility in use, so they get fees from me each month that way. I also have a number of insurance products, a credit card and I've had personal loans from NatWest. Plus I've been with them for nearly 20 years. If I'm honest, I think that makes me quite a valuable customer in their eyes, and maybe that's why they've agreed to refund my charges and interest in full without me having to fight them.

I think it's really crap that customers are not being treated the same and I made that point - if the banks uphold one person's claim, then they should do the same for all because all claims are being made for exactly the same reason.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I've just accepted a full settlement of £2382 from Natwest and am now claiming the additional charges of £480 incurred whilst going through the process.

Will keep you updated of the situation in case anyone is experiencing a similar scenario with Natwest.:T

    Do you mind me asking:-
How long have you been waiting for Cap One to reply?
    and
How much did you have to pay Barclaycard for statements?

I have just put claim in with Cap One and am writing to Barclays soon for statements (the Debenhams can watch out too!) No wonder I have been so broke!

Has anyone on here tackled Dell or is that a non-starter?

Thanks again folks...and for the best wishes re-mum...we needed the boost!

Thanks for that really quick reply Kez,
I only sent my Cap One claim off last week and from what I read it is going to be a tough one ..... but hey, we'll get them in the end.
I'll send the £10 off with my letter to Barclays tomorrow and maybe do the 40 days and 40 nights fasting thing....it's one better than holding my breath!!

    Good luck!
