  • Hi,
I find myself in the exact situation with nat west, however they never made me an offer they just entered a defence straight away. I am going to send them the requested information as far as I can understand it (like you say they are very long winded) I have also recieved a court allocation questionaire which must be submitted before the 17 jan and I think that a fee is payable for this also. I have been told by a solicitor that if the claim is for less than five thousand then court costs will not be payable, but I dont fancy standing in front of a judge trying to prove may case against a qualified solicitor.

Just got to share my jubilation!!! I had been meaning to take on Natwest re my charges for a couple of months...finally got onto to it over Christmas. Sent the first letter on the 29th claiming for £591 worth of charges and got a letter today (9/1/7) saying they are going to pay everything back!!!!! HURRAAAAHHH

I think it helps that I managed to put my account into credit...not sure though

Anybody thinking of going for...don't think, just go for it.......it really is the best feeling taking on a big bank and winning!!

  • Congrats MB, Sent my letter asking for figures of fees Ive paid today, Hopefully here something soon.
  • The message for Natwest is in the username name!

Spent most of last year complaining about various bank misdemeanours to numerous to detail to no avail. Just about everything they possibly could foul up on they did. Natwest just ignored letters, claimed it hadn't received them and still didn't bother to reply so was obliged to adopt the nuclear option.

Having come late to this I'm now fully into the swing of it. Two Natwest claims sent with provisional figures on December 14. No reply as bank management presumably far too busy on two weeks leave digesting their Christmas pud, or was it the magic mushrooms? The requested £10s-worth of statements arrived in their tatty brown envelopes either side of Christmas making for some light relief on the computer. Still no reply by New Year so LBAs sent December 31, with definitive (and higher) figures.

Today bank sent holding letters in repsonse to December 14 letters saying will respond as soon as possible. Their next 14 days notice expires Saturday so it's likely to be of to MC On-line Monday am. Already registered for MCOL and parachutes are in place as a precaution.

The impression I get from the resigned and long-suffering counter staff is that Natwest are now totally overwhelmed by the volume of claims coming and their system is grinding to a halt. So anyone still not gone over the parapet yet should do so to add to Natwests agonies! I usually try and stir it up a bit in the branch by complaining very loudly and telling all the other customers thery're being ripped-off and should take their business elsewhere. It really gets them annoyed. Try it, its very therapeutic!

    Thanks for all the advice.

  • I'm about to write a letter to dispute an unauthorised overdraft of over £1,200.

The o/d started when I asked the bank to cancel my d/d's from this seperate a/c and it was not done.

I set up all my d/d's on another account and was not getting regular statements from the said a/c. By the time I had realised I kept on getting charged 'unpaid d/d' fees and then kept on getting charged on top of charges applied.

To cut a long story short, I WORK FOR THIS COMPANY....., can anyone help me write a less harsh letter to ask for them to look into refunding these additional charges for the same reason associated with reclaiming charges.

I have been sent a default letter for this account.

Just to add this account has ben taken over by theit debt department and I have not been getting statements for months and do not have any access to this account by telephone or internet banking

Use the calculator in Martins article. This will work out the 8% interest for each charge up to the day you use the calculator.

I recieved a letter from Natwest saying that they were sorry for the delay and that they will get back to me ASAP after recieving my letter. The 14 days runs out Sunday, but I am willing to give them a few more days cos it was sent the day before NYE.

However, with the letter came a statement saying that there was a charge to go out on the 31st. What should I do about claiming the £28 for that one? Should I wait for a reply, sned another letter in....?

    Thank you :)
