Hello Everyone, please be gentle with me - this is my first post!
One of my wife's friends recently mentioned this site and how it could help me reclaim certain charges over the past 6 years.
Now to be honest, I didn't think i would get far - in fact didn't think i would get any reply to my request for a list of charges - i hand delivered a letter to my own NatWest branch on 25 April 2007, and yesterday (16 May 2007) received a coy of all my statements since I opened the account in October 2001.
Now i've got to put my hands up here and admit I ran my account very badly over the last 6 years, and after being made redundant just over a year ago, my account was passed to a debt collection agency with a balance of £341.30 outstanding (this was £710.96 at one stage) on 29 December 2006.
When i have gone through all the statements last night, i was shocked and horrified at the amount of charges that I will be claiming back - a staggering £3301.00. I have today hand delivered Martin's 2nd letter asking for all these charges back - but with interest - Martins calculator advises that the interest alone is £866.42 - so amount i have requested back is £4167.42.
I am now quite nervous as to what is likely to happen next, i have read so many different accounts on this website with different outcomes - should I have not asked for interest right away, could this be my downfall - i was just so irrate last night at the fact I have been deprived of this money when it could have been so useful in the past 12 months - your views would be very apprieciated!
On to the plus point, i have recently started in a new job and things are looking up - at last.
Thanks to everyone in advance for your responses and good luck to everyone else just starting out on their own campaign.
Regards

Hi & Welcome!
It doesnt matter whether you have asked for your charges back with interest or not i personally havent and am still awaiting my offer letter as you may have read!
A couple of pieces of advice i would offer are:
Stick to your timescales and send the letters as set out on the homepage.
Send everything recorded or like you have done by hand (get evidence they have received the letter in form of signature)
Carry on even when it seems like you are getting nowhere.
If needs be use the FO if you feel like a complaint is warranted.
If theres anything your not sure of refer back to this website there are answers to your questions on here somewhere you just need to look, if you cant find what you want then ask everyone is happy to help and someone will be able to answer your question.

Decided to give the bank a ring today to see what was happening and if they are planning to settling and try to avoid going to court. Was told that a letter offering me all the charges they've taken but no interest was to be send by 31st May. Anyone else been in this situation?
Does the letter arrive or is it a stalling tactic on their part. Also getting it sorted with out going to court appeals but missing out on the interest is a bit of a downer.
Hi - at the beginning of May i was told i would have an offer by 18th May - it arrived today - thats not to say you should take what they have said as accurate cause there are a lot of people on here that have been given inaccurate info, but in my case it was correct so i cant complain...it s pretty much whether you can afford to be patient or can afford to take them to court... my responses were yes and then no. i'm not in desperate need of the money but neither can i afford court fees so i decided to just sit it out with their timescales. mscDMP Support Member 254. Thanks Msc1977, well that is hopefully but it seems nothing is certain with them and they're certainly inconsistant. If they're telling the truth I'll have my money faster this way, although I idea of doing the same as Kazzex and going after the interest appeals. I'd rather avoid court be certain of getting my money and get it as soon as I can. Think I'll give them till the end of the month.0

U are probably best trying to ring the branch or customer relations to see whats happened to your statements then at least you can re-order them there and then. Failing that after 40 days you can report them to the information commissioner but they are probably inundated like the FO so your best bet is trying to get them re-ordered asap.
I would ring them numbers are 0800 015 4212 0845 30 30 456 for customer relations or try calling your branch.LBM - April 2007Claimed back my bank charges from Natwest - £1196Halifax Credit Card Claiming £467.35 Rec £467.35!/Capital One Card Claiming - £523.92/Barclaycard Claiming - £403.58 Rec £403.58/MBNA Claiming - £584.37 Rec£584.37Proud to be dealing with my debtsUpdate: 2009 - Currently claiming £1900 from Natwest0 -
Hi all,
I'm still new to this board so be nice!!:)
This morning I recieved a letter from Natwest saying that a Direct Debit that was due to come out of my account on the 15th may bounced due to insufficient funds. I do not have an overdraft - I have never authorised one or requested one. I am only 17 so this is still a limited youth account, called cardplus or something I think. I have a solo debit card so can't use it everywhere etc.
The letter they sent informed me that because the payment had bounced, I am subject to £38 charges. They didn't pay the direct debit, but have taken the £38 out of my account. The direct debit was for £18 - my fault entirely that it bounced, I had forgotten it was due and spent a bit too much this month! So, by taking £38 out of my account - they have forced an overdraft on me - yet it isn't!! I rang Natwest and they confirmed the above and unfortunately for them I am aware of reclaiming bank charges - I read Martin's articles a lot!! I told them I wanted to know why for the sake of £6 that wasn't in my account, they are charging me £38. She said it was in the T&C's. I asked whether they would try and take the direct debit again before there were funds available, she said it was up to the people who it was payable to and if they did - it would cost me another £38 if the funds weren't available.
I made her aware that I knew how to go about reclaiming and she said I had to write to them with a reason why I wanted a refund and it would be considered.
I rang the Charity who the direct debit was to, and they were lovely, said it didn't matter and they wouldn't try again until next month. They said that it turns out the bank charges them as well for my direct debit not going through. It's disgusting!
Anyway, both my Dad and I are well informed on money matters and I will be persuing the £38 - it might not seem much to other people but to put it in perspective...it is a quarter of my monthly earnings as I only work a few hours a week whilst doing my a levels!
Sorry this is so long! I really wanted to ask if anyone had any advice about claiming from Natwest?
Thanks
