There is an answer to this question somewhere on this thread ive seen it but cant remember the answer sorry i dont think its too far back. If i come across the answer i'll post it up for you.
Cheers i'll start to have a look. What would happen if i claimed for these amounts and they turned out not to be chargers when would they tell me i was wrong. I have sent my first letter asking asking for my money back and got a replie saying they were looking into my account.

I think it would be up to them to investigate as you are not at court stages yet i would think it wouldnt matter too much. After all if they cant be specific enough on their statements to put what is a charge and what isnt then its not your fault if you list them and there not - why not put them all?!

  • Hi Folks,
Just wanted to warn those who are claiming from natwest that setting up a new acct elsewhere is essential.
I successfully claimed £931 back in January - however, a problem with my Car Insurance meant the Insurer took a Debit Transaction for the full year instead of small monthly payments. I spotted this had happened and spoke to Natwest to advise them and ask for their advice - I was told "don't worry, you have warned us in advance. As long as the money is coming back you will be alright".
The following day a series of transactions posted to my account which took me overlimit. I was charged over £300 in 24hrs! That's £38 for each transaction - some as small as £4.00!
Although the money has since been returned by the insurers, Natwest are standing firm and refusing to give these subsequent charges back. And yes, their charges sent me back overlimit so further transactions have incurred further charges.
Every conversation with them starts with the question: "have you reclamied charges from us recently?" - a supsicious man would think that anyone who has successfully got charges back will be subjected to a new level of ruthlessness by the bank.
I have now opened an acct with Alliance and Leicester, but Natwest's vicious attack on my account has left me sinking back into debt yet again, just as I was getting on top of things.
It looks as though Natwest have won and are pushing me into bankruptcy.

Thanks smudgemanc26 found a useful link to 'consumer action group' explains very well on how to break down the natwests lump't charges. But i think your right i will try and claim the 'charges' as they appear on my staments. As you said if they can be bothered to break them down why should i, not until it has to go to court anyway. Apparently you should recive a pre advice statement prior to your bank statement and this statement listed the actual charges labelled as 'basis of charge'.

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    money went in yesterday

which is funny because i rang them on my dinner yesterday to find out what was goin on, was waiting 37 mins to get through, finally got an operator and she said yeh sorry your letter hasnt been put on your screen yetm try at the end of the week.

Just thought I would check my account to see how skint I am and £1478 has been paid in.

Thanks for all your help, and I advise everybody to keep going.

I didn't even go through MCOL or FO, I just sent a few letters and rang twice a week and its only taken 3 months from getting my statements to get my money.

Really? That's a very worrying development indeed. Has anyone else had this experience? If this becomes widespread, I hope that Martin will raise this issue, as it implies people standing up for their rights may now be black-listed in some way.

should i just issue a court notice on there !!! or wait untill next wednesday just hold out to see if they do actually respond and send the offer letter?...

After waiting since March for my refund or any correspondence from Natwest i have today made a claim to the FO. I had to go home at dinner so thought i would check the post. To my suprise there was a letter from Natwest but it wasnt an offer of a refund which they said verbally they have made it was a f'ing letter to say ive gone over my overdraft!!! Fuming isnt the word

I rang them immediately blood boiling and explained i wouldnt have gone over my overdraft if they hadnt have kept charging me - £170 last week since initial claim and £70 again this week!!! I told the lad who i didnt want to shout at as its not his fault he just happens to answer the phone and explained if i could get my sodding refund back ive been waiting for they can have their overdraft back.

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH EVERYTIME I THINK ABOUT IT, IM GETTING SOOOOOOO MAD!! Cant believe they have the cheek!

Welcome to my world!!! My claim has probably been going the same time as yours and i have nothing not even a letter of acknowledgment so today i reported them to the FO!! HAHA

Im so fed up ive rang a few times everytime i get a different story today i got told that i havent even got an offer - i got told last week i had an offer made back in march!!

They told me i should get my letter in the 7th week also which is early next week and they have up till the 18th may to respond - no they dont cos my date for court proceedings is before that.

Im so sick of the way they pick and choose who to send offers to nothing makes sense they are not working to any kind of system and im sick of getting fobbed off all the time!

Im gonna send my claim to court (even got to borrow the money to do that) but im so p***ed off now ive totally had enough :(
