hi there,:D
I am a previous lurker up to now and have been reading this thread for months, am in the Natwest backlog at moment awaiting an offer !
The outcome in court today was that Judge Peter Simpson adjourned today's session stating that not enough time had been set aside and referred the case to a future date.
Hope this is of use0 -

Looks like another delay tactic...by the Bank.....
I bet all the Banks are watching this with interested......Imagine the flood gates that will be open IF or should I say When lol...Tom wins...good Luck...Tom...........Lilly May :j0 -
I sent a £10 cheque & got the statements, they didn't cash my cheque until weeks later.......no refund of the fiver!
I did actually forget to put a cheque in(was having a blonde day),so they sent my letter back along with a standard letter with tick boxes on with different responses depending on the situation. One of those boxes said something along the lines of "Our charge is only £5 Please find your cheque for £10 enclosed & please send another cheque for £5"
I remember thinking they must be getting loads of £10 cheques for it to be put on the letter as an option.
In my case it said cheque not enclosed, please send one.BARGAINADDICT

It's really easy to get excited after getting a verbal offer & being told the letter will be with you in X amount of weeks, I've been there. But Martin says "Remember. In the letters, YOU set the timetable, so stick to YOUR timetable and don't allow the bank to dictate."
I'm due to file with MCOL but I'm in 2 minds wether or not to give them extra time because of the Easter holidays, on the other hand, bear this in mind what others have said......."the banks didn't hestate to apply the charges even with people pleading with them & putting them in a financial mess".
Only you can decide when or what to do, good luck & let us know what happens
Hi, you are entirely right, they didn't hesitate in charging me yet again this month. I had to laugh when they said I was a valued customer and if I pursued this action that would be the end of free banking!!! Well I am evidence that I have paid £907 for "free" banking.
I am sending the LBA today and giving them 14 days and if they don't respond I will then ask for my interest too - cheers for advice.:T0 -

Good for you! I was dithering for a while, as to whether to give the banks a bit longer due to the backlog, but am now definitely going to go ahead with MCOL when the 14 days are up (Monday). They never gave me extra time to sort things out - they simply zapped me with more charges - £480 in one month alone!!! I'm sure they regarded me as a 'valued customer' - I was making lots of dosh for them !!

I had the same problem. I juggled payments to try to get round my lack of money at the end of each month. In the end the bank said they'd help me with my money problems (which they'd created) by 'allowing me to get a loan'.
I took the loan and now am even worse off as it wasn't enough to actually handle the problem but the repayments were enough to throw my finances out again.
I approached natwest to reclaim my charges. Since trying to claim them they have done all sorts of weird and wonderful things. Large one off charges (one for £240! that they cannot justify). So far in the months since asking for my money back they have managed to crank up my charges by another 2k! They phoned me at one point to let me know that one of my large charges that had gone out (my whole weeks wages) had meant that my loan payment which was due to be paid, was now unable to be paid. They offered to put up my overdraft. They put it up from £1380 to £1960 as they said I would be getting my charges back soon. I actually thought that was a stroke of luck. However, I noticed in the following days large charges were still going out of my account. I went into my branch to ask and was told that they had immediately reverted my overdraft to £1,200 the day after I spoke to them, as a cheque had cleared which had broken the terms of the 'agreement', an agreement that they didn't outline to me. Nice of them to tell me and I suppose it's a coincidence that they let me take money out believing that I was within my agreed limit.
I now have a bank account that I cannot use. Natwest have well and truly done me over. I have written to them and asked them if they truly believe these tactics have been fair. Of course they haven't replied.
My next step is to take them to court. I would actually love it to get to court. My case is so strong, I'd love to let the judge know what they've done to me. Claim the bank charges before thay snowball.0 -

I'd also recommend making a complaint through their complaints procedure. If you're not satisfied with the outcome, you can then take it to the Ombudsman. Natwest upgraded my account to Advantage Gold without my permission - this would have incurred monthly account charges. It's going through the last stage of the complaints procedure, and they are already talking about compensation, without at this stage admitting they were wrong to do this to my account. I'll take it to the Ombudsman if I'm not satisfied with their 'findings' - at this stage, they are still trying to fob me off and claim that it was a 'misunderstanding' !!

PS I don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but at one time I used to be totally intimidated by Natwest. No more, not since I've realised what greedy institutions banks are !! I've now got the confidence to challenge them.0
