Ok here's my progress so far.

Beginning of March sent my claim off for bank charges.
After a week delay i got an offer.
I have refused the offer and now sent a letter back threatening court action.

I called Natwest today as the deadline is now up for an answer from the 2nd letter. I know they have received my refusal as i checked royal mail and it's been signed for. Yet im told there is a backlog and my letter hasnt been logged into their system. They asked me to give it another week then call them again. This means more charges going on to my account.

I am going to wait another week, then see what happens.

i sent my cheque to natwest nearly 3 weeks ago and i have not heard anything and they haven't cashed the cheque, but my partner is doing the same with barclays and he's heard from them and they sent the cheque back saying they would send them out free of charge, do you think i should ring them?

I sent my letter dated 19/02/07 requesting statements, recieved them on 12/03/07, they didn't cash my cheque until a couple of weeks ago so it's not unusual but quick reminder call won't hurt :)

Hi Lisa, i'm in the same situation as you. Barclays didn't acknowledge so i won by default and had letter from court confirming this nearly 2 weeks ago. When i got through to barclays head office to ask when the money would be paid they said they had no record of court's ruling. The woman advised me to ask court for records and send them to head office. Rang court and they got them to me today and they are already in post (recorded delivery of course!).

Like you i don't want to get heavy handed - Barclays have actually been very pleasant with all this and their staff are obviously just saying what they are told to say. Lady from barclays and i had a laugh about bailiffs, she said they might get you the value in pens and plants!

Still confident i'll get the money soon, the documents i sent with strongly worded letter will probably mean i'll get cash sooner than later. (2617 in total - YIPPEE). Good luck, ring bank asap to see if they have the notice of judgment.

Your branch for that I think.
  • I have sent a letter to the address on this website ie retail regulatory risk edinburgh but have received no reply and my £10 cheque has not been cashed after 40 days. Does anyone have a telephone number for them please?
    Thanks
  • Does anyobe feel like giving up before the have even started i sent FATWEST the 1st letter and there 14 days are up on the 17th i phoned the m today anyway just to see if there is an approx timescale that its taking for the claims to be completed and all i was told was they cant tell me if it will take approx 4 day 4 weeks or 4 years. Bloody great they are!!!

But anyway what i want to know is what you all think of me calling the bank manager and saying that im prepared to pay a cost of 2.00p per charge that i recieved but i want the rest refunded asap, i dont mind paying an approx amount to the bank for cost that they actually did accrue due to my bank balance and management but what im not accepting is the extortionate amount they put on top. Anyone got any advice on this one?????

I wouldn't bother phoning them to ask where things are up to - I'd simply stick to the timescales advised. If they've a backlog, that's their problem and we shouldn't feel obliged to wait til they get their act together. Did they ever give us a bit more time to sort things out before slapping on the charges ?!
I also wouldn't bother offering them anything towards those charges they slapped on !!! They may well refund the full amount when the claim goes through, and if they don't, then you decide whether or not to accept a lesser amount, or press on through MCOL - AND claim interest as well!!
I just wouldn't give them an inch at this stage :)

    Pam
