  • Hi all.

I called natwest today and after three numbers managed to speak to someone.

I asked for an update on my case (Sent second letter asking for charges back 12 days ago) they said they received my letter on the 11th so they have 8 weeks to respond as they r still processing claims from back in february.
I know this to be untrue so i will be sending my next letter next week to inform them that i will be starting court proceedings.

I'm trying to claim £2001 so i am gonna push it all the way.

    Good luck to everyone else.

    Hi there,

I wonder if someone could help me.

I have sent off and received back all of my statements from Natwest and have listed and totalled all charges. What I need to know now is what I should be claiming back from the list below as i'm a little confused.
The item listed as simply charges includes a monthly amount for the Gold A/C which I pressume I can't claim back. However, this started at £6 and then went to £20 which I believe included the "Unarranged Borrowin Fee" previously listed separately. It then went up to £29 in Aug. 2003 and rose to £37 in Oct. 2004  . It is currently at £28. Can I claim for any of these charges and which others from the list below?

SERVICE FEE - £12 (£6 x2 which I believe subsequently became simply CHARGES)

UNARRANGED BORROWING FEE - £14 (which I believe was subsequently lumped into simply CHARGES)

    CHARGES - £1492.42 (08/02 - 03/07 variable amounts as described above)

    CARD MISUSE - £175.00

    UNPAID ITEMS - £30.00

    PAID REFERRAL - £25.00

    REFERRAL CHARGE - £620.00

    Thanks for your help.
    Chris.

    Thanks to Rex Mundi:

    CAN BE CLAIMED

    Account misuse fee
    Cheque return fee
    Card misuse fee
    Unarranged borrowing fee
    Unauthorised overdraft fee
    Unpaid DD fee
    Unpaid cheque fee
    Unpaid standing order fee
Late payment fee (credit cards, store cards, catalogues etc)
    Exceeding Authorised Overdraft Limit
    Exceeding Unauthorised Overdraft Limit
    Direct Debit/Standing Order/Cheque returned fee
    Irregular fee
    Paid refferal fee
Total charges (HSBC personal accounts only, not business accounts)

    CANNOT BE CLAIMED

    Cash Machine Withdrawl Fees
    Account Service Charges
    Service Fee / Annual Fee
Charges related to foreign currency transactions and conversions.
Monthly account fees on certain type of accounts.
    Normal overdraft interest charges

Now as far as Advantage Gold is concerned, I know at the moment you are supposed to deduct £12 from the monthly account fee, although I can't find what the previous years amount was for this as it has risen over the years to the £12 charge, I'll try & find a list for you today but hopefully someone will be along to help you sooner

    Good luck :)

Found the list (Thanks to 2cats):

October 2002 The Advanntage Gold fee was £6
September 2003 The fee went up to £9
From July 2005 it was £10
And finally from June 2006 it is up to present total of £12

By the way, if THE BANK CHARGES took YOU overdrawn you can claim the interest back on that but not if you took YOURSELF overdrawn ;)
  • hi, i sent my first letter on 20th febuary, today friday 13th, got my offer letter, its been signed and posted back already lol. I found the complaints office really helpful, every time i phoned, which was roughly twice a week, they would up-date me. i was told how much the offer was and when it had been authorised, i guess in all fairness they have been inundated with these claims so the normal response time scale has gone out the window, my advice is, if they say they have an offer, then give it the 8 weeks from when you sent you letter to get your offer, if not recieved in that time then contact the ombusmen, the details are on natwest website, but be patient, if they make a verbal offer you will get your money. Good luck everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Couple more questions. I have just found this in another post on the site which confirms your charge details.

I am taking my starting point as October 2002 which is when the service charge was merged with Unarranged Borrowing. SO we have Advantage Gold charges as follows:
October 2002 The Advanntage Gold fee was £6
September 2003 The fee went up to £9
From July 2005 it was £10
And finally from June 2006 it is up to present total of £12
A quick note though, during 2002/3 there was a special charge for certain people trialling the newer Advantage Gold benefits which was £7.50.

So how do I work out what is the Advantage Gold and Unarranged Borrowing charge?

The statement may say charge £20 so that is £14 Unarranged Borrowing and £6 ADGD fee, or £29 which is
£20 Unarranged Borrowing and £9 ADGD fee, or £37 which is Unarranged Borrowing and £9 ADGD, or
£38 which is £28 Unarranged Borrowing and £9 ADGD, or finally £40 which is £28 Unarranged Borrowing and
    £12 ADGD fee.

However, if you converted the account back from advantage gold partially through the month it may have something
like this 31Jan06 charges £34.50 which is £28 Unarranged Borrowing and £6.50 ADGD.

This all makes sense to a point, Nov. 05 to be precise. Prior to this date I was being charged £38 which according to the above brakes down as £10 ADGD & £28 Unarranged borrowing fee which I can claim. However, in Nov. '05 I received charges of £24 & £5.42 which don't make any sense to me. Also, thereafter I have been paying only £28 per month charge which according to the above in soley the Unarranged Borrowing Fee with no ADGD fee.

Finally, is PAID REFERRAL & REFERRAL CHARGE the same thing therefore both can be claimed back?

    Any ideas?

Need to get this all correct before listing them all and sending off my 1st letter to NATWEST. (p.s. do I send to Head Office or Local Branch?)

    Many thanks.

in Nov. '05 I received charges of £24 & £5.42 which don't make any sense to me.......I too had odd charges, I claimed for these, even one for £XX.05??? & I thought I did this wrong but had a verbal offer since then so I must have been right?!?!.

is PAID REFERRAL & REFERRAL CHARGE the same thing therefore both can be claimed back?........claim for both.

do I send to Head Office or Local Branch?...... either your branch (which I did & got to the right dept in the end) or head office Borehamwood (which is recommended). Don't forget to keep copies & send recorded (signed for) delivery.

Hope I've covered everything :) good luck ;)
  •

    #Thanks Paw.

I called them and now have a reference number as they are going to make and offer which could take up to 8 weeks so she said to ring back in a few weeks but i will ring weekly!
  • Thanks again for all your help. The waters are finally clearing!:D

Just a final point, what do you reckon about the fact that since Dec. '05 I have been paying total charges of £28 which only seem to indicate the Unarranged Borrowing Fee.
Do you think it wise to claim for this total amount or deduct the £10/£12 ADGD Fee?

    Thanks again.

Property is different from a small (in comparison debt) and nowadays a mortgage is treated rather differently. Also I have to disagree completely with your banking comments, a friend of mine recently lost their job and fell on hard times, wanting to do the right thing she wrote to all the banks/credit cards she was affiliated with and asked for them to freeze interest/offered a payment plan she could afford etc until they managed to get a new job etc..... 100% of them simply passed it to debt collectors!! ignoring her letters completely.

So as far as understanding from banks...... sorry that b******s.

Not being funny, but you are talking about one case. I probably dealt with 3-400.
