I've received a second offer from HSBC relating to same charges but it was for 3 pound more than the first one. I accepted the first offer last week and am waiting for the money to go into my account. Not sure what to do with the second offer either.0

Hello guys.
Just to let you know I received a letter last night from HSBC offering all the money back. A bit of luck as I was about to start the court process which they assured me they would win! :-)

I had numerous duplicate letters. I phoned them and they said if I sent them back, they would have paid out but would have probably noticed eventually and taken the money back...
I currently want to kick HSBC. I was supposed to have received my £748 back last Friday. I phoned them Monday and warned them that I had money going out of my account on Wednesday (today) and if they charged me, I would be rather annoyed... They promised the money would be in today. Whadaya know... I checked this morning. Money isn't it and they've charged me £75. I shall be making several people cry tomorrow... I have told them if they don't pay up by tomorrow morning, I'm starting court proceedings and I may call the ombudsman now...With all of my dietary restrictions, I'm left with lipstick and water0 -
I would still go to court and explain what you just wrote above. If they wanted you to drop the court case, they should have given you the money sooner.
Good luck, let us know how you get on. x:smileyheaRachel xx0 -

When did u start your claim? I sent my 14 day letter with a full break down of my charges how they specifically asked 3 weeks ago now. I did receive a letter stating they were dealing with my claim but had a back log so it could take upto 8 weeks. I rang them yesterday to inform them i'll be sending an LBA and they informed me someone will be looking at it THIS week.
Does this sound about right for hsbc?0 -
Hi, I've been looking into reclaiming my charges and started the process.
In December I sent of a request for statements, which I received.
I created an Excel template listing all the bank Charges and Charge type and date of charge and posted that to them along with the template letter on the 19th jan 07.
I then, on the 30th Jan 07 received the bog standard "looking into matters" letter coupled with a receipt.
Then, sticking to deadlines I sent the court threat letter template, coupled with a list of charge INCLUDING interest at 8% (on an Excel template as above) which totalled £5022, on the 6th February 07 by Recorded delivery.
Checking Royal Mails site, the letter was received and signed for on the 8th of February. Tomorrow is the 15th - being 7 days from the date of receipt of my court threat and I HAVE NOT AS YET RECEIVED A REPLY from them!
What do I do?
shall I start court proceedings tomorrow - sticking to my deadline?
Or shall I CALL THEM today requesting an update first?
I'd be happy with them settling for £4k, as without interest my claim is £4180 - being £180 short, the interest I only included in the court threat letter (which they have 7 days to reply), and I was not initially claiming.
This is really stressing me out, what shall I do? shall I call them today??
please help!

Thanks to MSE for all the info. My progress so far with HSBC:-
1/2/07 - requested statements but still not had reply however on 8/2 realised I had access to 6 yr statements through internet banking!
9/2 - sent 1st letter recorded delivery claiming £936 charges, £1136.99 inc interest
12/2 - letter signed for (still not had reply from statement request so glad I found online charges!) Ah well, if they don't reply within 14 days I will move onto next stage.0 -
Hi all! Myself and my friend have both sent out the second letter to HSBC bank, stating the amount we wish to reclaim. Whilst HSBC has responded within the 14 days as requested, they have issued to both of us a holding letter stating that they are "looking into matters". Is this common? Should we be taking further action on this period?
Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks!0 -
I'll pop this into the HSBC thread and you'll find this is a standard delay letter from the bank and you can move on to the next step with your letter before action.0

It's a delaying tactic. However, you should give them the same leniancy they afforded to you with the charges i.e. none. Proceed with the next stage.0
