Now to tackle those 3 points on Saturday...................

Hi There
I want to claim back my charges from HSBC which amount to a few thousand. I also want to apply for a mortgage with them however in a few months, do you think it would be worthw aiting till I have the mortgage signed and sealed before trying to reclaim- this won't really affect my total to claim much. I am worried they might blacklist you if you try and claim before and then knock me back for a mortgage....
Does claiming affect your credit rating atall?
Has anyone had ay experiences where HSBC are awkward once you've sucessfully claimed the money back?0 -
quinlad wrote:I'm interested to know how well people have got on when claiming interest. Are most people doing it? The general view seems to be that HSBC will offer 85% - presumably this is 85% of the charges, and not the total that includes interest?
I asked HSBC for interest and they politely told me not to be so silly. However, I did get the rest of my money back in full - £773 - which was nice as I would have been delighted with £500... I didn't have to argue with them. I submitted one letter on December 13th. Got the "we're looking into it" letter and then got the goodwill offer letter yesterday. They've been fine with me but then I wasn't actually asking for much in the grand scheme of things. With all of my dietary restrictions, I'm left with lipstick and water0 -
Thanks for the advice sammy
I actually rang them yesterday to see what the delay was and they apologised and sent a letter to me straight away!!
I claimed £1049 but with interest was £1401
The sent me a letter straight away and it arrived today offering me £950
I might take it as I have a new baby and would be a nice bonus...
Still unsure what to do!!0 -
I put in a claim with HSBC for £1049... with interest it worked out £1401.
I sent the 1st letter off in December and then after I worked out how much they owed me I sent the 2nd letter off with the calculator on 01/01/07!
I then sent a 3rd letter on 19/01/07 as they had not responded with anything!
After 9 days passed (which was yesterday) I rang them to see what was going on and they apologised a few times for not responding to my 2nd or 3rd letters... The lady also said it could take up to 8 weeks etc and I was really polite and didn`t listen to this... I said that they had my letters and it was not acceptable that they had ignored me and that I would take legal action as my 3rd letter had stated.
The lady went off presumably to speak to a manager or something... anyway because they were in the wrong as HSBC policy dictates they have to reply to peoples letters within 5 days she said some-one is looking into it straight away and will send me a letter but would not comfim what it would say.
I received the letter yesterday offering me £950 of the money I was claiming for...
I am not unsure wether to take this offer or take the matter further!!

It's up to you, if you want the rest, you could accept this only as partial payment and let them know you will claim for the rest.
They may make you a better offer, but if this is their final offer, you will need to put in a claim to force them to repay the remainder.0 -

That's a very good offer on the amount you are claiming (just over 90% of what you are entitled to at this stage). Consider that at this stage you are not entitled to the interest.
It is completely your choice whether to accept or not, but I would recommend thinking about it. For the amount of your claim this isn't bad.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Oh sorry I forgot to say something on my last post a few minutes ago!!
In addition the letter states that the bank is not entilted to pay me any interest on charges incurred and also if I took my claim to court the bank would surley win. They said they owe me nothing but in good will will pay me £950 of the total £1401 that I claimed.
£950 is only £100 off what I worked out my charges to be... I think I might take it!!
By the way rex thank you for your post... it is a very good offer and I will take it I`ve decided0 -
I am reclaiming £1631.00 in total from HSBC... yesterday I got a letter offering me £1361.66... not sure what to do... I have since had charges applied to my account and am in the process of starting the process again to reclaim these..
Do I take it or not?!0 -

Well done, at least you don't have any more worries about going to court.
Don't forget to post your case in the success sticky at the top of this board. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
