Do I take it or not?!

Does your claim of £1631 include interest, or is this only charges?

No it is just charges... decided originally not to go for interest as I was prob more likely to get a good offer.

Their offer is 83% of your claim. Only you can decide whether to accept this or not. Some people have had increased offers by ringing them up. Tell them you think this offer is too low, and you are minded to carry on the claim. Some banks have upped the offer on the phone. If you do this, decide the lowest offer you would accept first, and stick to it.

    Hi everyone
I've just had a bizarre conversation with a HSBC customer services guy, originally I rang just to cancel my DDs and SOs (bit of a cashflow problem for next couple of weeks), all fine and normal he did this, he advised me if I paid nothing else please make sure I paid my HSBC CC, as otherwise I would be charged, in his words, "for nothing". Quite refreshing I thought. So anyway, back at the end of Nov 06 I sent my SAR to HSBC with a £10 chq, I received nothing back. As I didn't send it by registered delivery, I though I would wait until I opened my umbrella account (counting the days til Citibank get back to me with an answer!) and then start again. I mentioned this to the guy on the phone, he laughed and said "I take it you didn't receive anything" when I told him no, he immediately requested all my statements since I opened the account (only 2 years but its been a tough2 years!) on his "special system". I laughed at this "special system", he said, "my whole day is now spent requesting bank statements, make sure you use the legal template letters on all the websites do you know what ones to use", and gave me a different address other than the registered one to send the letters to. I said I was worried they would shut my account and he said "why would we do that? we don't want to lose any more custom!".
Anyway he said I'd get all my statements by next friday so I'll keep you posted!
Sorry for the long post, it was just a cool conversation!

Have you asked them if it was a misprint?
  • Hi everyone

I sent off my first letter claiming back my charges this week after wading through about 300 statements. My chin dropped further and further as I was adding up all the charges as it came out at around £3600!! At the same time it was dawning on me how much HSBC have screwed me over again and again over the past few years, it infuriates me - just charge after charge for virtually nothing, £30 here and there for going a few quid overdrawn etc, £100/£125 at the end of each month for god knows what, I think they pick these figures out of a hat! They've just continually sent me further and further into debt over the years.

So I'm now determined to go all the way with this. I even added interest on from the start, so the total came in at around £4500.

I'm just wondering though, my total is pretty heft compared to most - has there been much evidence of HSBC playing harder to get for higher amounts?

    TOBRO xx

Can anyone tell me if the outcome of a claim for bank charges depends at all which branch of your bank you send your claim to??? I was thinking that perhaps large city branches of HSBC are seeing the bank charge claims a lot more often than the tiny branch that I am in. Do you think this makes a difference? Has anyone noticed a pattern at all??
  • Hi, I have just received from HSBC my summary of charges for the past 6 years and am 'owed' £658 excluding interest, £810 including interest. I have a couple of questions, any help much appreciated:

    1) Am I actually entitled to claim interest? If I have been overdrawn most of the last 6 years, then I wouldn't have actually accrued interest becuase I was in debit?! Or is this not how the interest concept works...

    2) I am currently £1000 overdrawn in my HSBC current account from which I want to reclaim the charges. If they decide to close my account I would obviously need to pay back the overdraft. I read somewhere else on the forum that HSBC sold a lady's account to a debt collection agency after she reclaimed charges but remained overdrawn!! Basically, would it be safer to pay off my overdraft before I try and claim this money?

I also have a credit card and loan with HSBC but understand these are covered by seperate agreements and am up to date with all of those payments. Ihave missed a couple in the past though but nothing serious...

Many thanks, what a great site :)
