Well done to you. It shouldn t be much longer now, we all need to try and wait just that little bit more, at least we know our monies are on the way, no more waiting that eight week timescale to see if we will get offer or told to go away. I must admit though hsbc have always been helpful on phone and via e mails with regards to my claim. Pity the customer services and actual bank aren t so nice at stopping the charges before it comes to this.

I decided to jump on the bandwagon in June when i received Yet Another bank charge i couldn't afford to pay and yet another one that caused me to go over my agreed overdraft limit.
I worked out my total charges and interest which came to £889.07. Wrote to HSBC on 25/06/07 and received the standard we're investigatiing letter only 2days later! How suprised was i when i opened the envelope to find not another bank charge but a response!
The 14days has now passed so on the 11/07/07 i emailed them through the website and enquired as to how long this process would take. My reply said upto 8 weeks.
I'm now ready to send the 2nd template letter saying i would accept £700 in fourteen days. I would really like to wait around for 8weeks to receive to full amount back but a) i'm too impatient. b) i can't afford to and c) i didn't expect to see any of the money again.
My question is, if and when i do get the money back does anyone know how i'll get it? My account has been frozen and i'm meant to be paying back my overdraft, will they balance the account or will i receive a cheque?
Thanks again to everyone who has written in, you've helped me understand the process a lot more!

Welcome:j
Hi i dont think you will find second letter asking for settlement of £700 in next fourteen days will work, they will work to an eight week time scale from your first letter, then make you an offer (maybe full amount, or 80-95% of your claim) it is totally upto you whick route you take ie: wait the eight weeks or go to next letter threatening court, but you will find the court process alot more stressful and takes alot longer than the eight week wait, its entirely upto you what you do, you have waited nearly 4wks now so another 4 and should have that money in your account.
I would imagine that it would be used to pay off your overdraft but im not really sure the best thing to do is to ring them up and enquire and see what advise they give you, they are generally very nice people on the other end of the phone  .
Good luck and let us know how you get on

I had offer within 7weeks for £1,857.25 so you will succeed like all us. :T :TIts been the longest three months..... success is nearly insight:T ....... Money in account :beer:0 -
Hi trace
Hows you?
I was just reading your message, at least you know that they are onto it, but six weeks for hsbc to reply is rediculous,
keep your chin up it will be worth it in the end. You could make headline news up where you live with that amount of money due.
Have you thought of going to you local newspaper and telling them your story might make hsbc pay up quicker. Or maybe it would make them dig their heels in more. lol

i guess i'll wait the 8 weeks then. Seen alot of your posts on the forum and you seem to know a hell of a lot so i'll go with that! I suppose paying off the overdraft wouldn't be such a bad thing as it's one less thing to pay a month. Money seems to come in a disappear straight away at the moment!
Thanks for the advice. I'll keep upto date with whats happening. Congratulations on your claim, thats fantastic!HSBC

Hi Lou
6 wks does sound a bit long, but you never know might be earlier! I'm now used to waiting, so wait i shall! The very thought of going to local newspaper & making my financial situation public fills me with absolute dread! :embarasse :embarasse I guess that's the Scorpio in me! As long as i get my money! If i do, i want to treat my mum-in-law & her twin (she's bailed us out a couple of times, but i have paid back) to a cottage for Xmas as they're 80! & would like to visit my sis in South Africa, as never been, so fingers crossed.
I shall be just the same as you, if i get that far!, checking my bank account, started doing it already, even tho i know more chance of an emo in tanning salon!! :rotfl:
What's going to be your little treat?

HI trace
Sure your mother in law will love it. And a trip to South Africa courtesy of hsbc is great you could send them a postcard:rotfl: telling them this holiday was paid for by the interest so thankyou very much for if you had paid up on the eight week mark i would nt have got so much and not been able to afford holiday:rotfl:
With my money as its not quite as much as yours about £10k less  (god that really is alot of money) i would like to have a few days away with family and would love to get tickets to see Meatloaf in concert (i love him soooooo much)only seen him once and that was back in the eighties and been hooked ever since. #
Ok call me sadi think you either love his music or hate it and i love it love it love it

Think i will send HSBC a postcard - he he!!
Love my rugby, so might fit in a couple of England games, but priority will be paying of debts, and getting sorted.
I saw someone on the Success board who got £12k back!! Thought i was the largest claim! - Nothing to be proud of!!
See ya

I sent my first claim letter with the statements by recorded delivery about a month ago. I then received quite a nice letter from HSBC (almost too nice!)stating they were looking into my enquiry, though no timescale was mentioned. 14 working days have now elapsed from the date of their letter.
Are HSBC known for delaying tactics? Is it best to get on to them urgently when the 14 days are up, or give it a few more days?0
