Apologies to those people who thought I was referring to them by saying there was hysteria on the forum. All I can say is, one process, a few varied experiences, 173 pages of people putting their muddling tuppenceworth in, whats all that about??
No, I'm just an ex-student customer who racked up lots of debt with HSBC and didn't see any account in credit for over 10 years. I joined them when they were Midland and they seemed friendly! I struggled with my finances through my own efforts and they hit me hard with the charges. But like most of us I just took them for granted.
Now I see getting ANY money back as a huge bonus payday, and setting out to rub their noses in it is pointless. They are paying out thousands- what more do we want? And the bank is made up of Miss X and Mr Z at the other end, doing the best they can to be polite as we rage and moan, they've even got a procedure set up now to deal with them all as quickly as possible, yes sometimes things get forgot or mislaid but if you were dealing with thousands of claims every day full of PROVOCATIVE ANGRY LANGUAGE you'd get in a muddle too.
No I wouldn't work for a bank in a month of Sundays, how boring! Just enough money to kep me afloat suits me fine. But cutting through the crap is about looking at yourself.
Why am I getting so worked up
Why am I making them into the 'enemy'
What am I getting out of this stress, do I enjjoy it?
If you get your approach right then life starts working for you not against you. And if you do suffer setbacks, they don't bother you at all.
Anyway good luck to everyone trying to claim charges- even if you don't get them back, whoop di do- life goes on!0 -
Hi Everyone,
I've received an offer today via the personal message facility, my original letter to Leeds was dated 26th April and I've received this offer right on the eight week button. I'm not too clear at this point what exactly they have offered to me as all my paperwork is at work, I claimed against two accounts both amounting to £1,300ish each but only one account number is quoted on the e message with an offer of £1173.85 which is the amount of only one claim - could they have offered this against both my claims? They have said that an offer letter dated 22nd June is on its way so maybe that will tell me more.
Anyway I just wanted to say that it took eight weeks exactly to get an offer after two letters sent in April and three polite chase up e messages from me.
I never threatened court action any point just stayed patient and persistant!! Just hope they havent lost the second claim now!!0 -
Well done. I wish we'd done that. We are at the waiting stage after making a claim on MoneyClaim, 17 days to go and they've already aknowledged the claim. So just over 2 weeks to wait to see if they put in a defence. Feels like an age and we're not feeling very lucky. We just need the money SO much it's untrue! The total including interest and the claim fee is nearly £2900. Please God.

Hi all.
I am a bit of a newbie with the HSBC thread ( I am also in the process of claiming back charges with Nationwide, but having to go through Moneyclaim as that is the way it works with them).
Just want to clarify a few points.
1) My accounts with HSBC were passed onto a debt collection agency, and am in the process of paying them back. Have read a few threads with HSBC which indicate they do offer a partial payment, but on the understanding that it is knocked straight off what you owe them. Is this correct, and are they allowed to do this?
2) Reading many of the ways that people have approached HSBC it would appear that the best way to get the money back is to not go through the courts and write to them, and they should reply within 8 weeks. Is this correct? and should I add interest or not? Also, the letter that you send - is it the standard one requesting back the charges and asking for them to respond within 14 days?
Your advice in this matter would be greatly appreciated, as I have read so much, and am now a more than a little confused!!!
Cheers!
BlodwynAmount being claimed from Nationwide - £2794.50 + £524.09 in interest = £3318.59 + court fees = £3438.59
lodged with Moneyclaim online 29/06/2007
Amount to be claimed from HSBC - £730.00 (charges only). Email sent to customer relations 01/07/2007 & letter sent by recorded delivery 02/07/2007 (to be on the safe side!!!!!!)

As with all creditors, if there is a debt outstanding on the account in question they are entitled to offset any sum you claim back off them against this debt.
You can by all means add the interest on using Martins calculator when initially writing to them, although you aren't entitled to the interest unless the claim has gone to court and it is awarded so by the judge

Think I'll try it without the interest as I am hoping not to get to court.
It's worth a shot claiming even if I don't get awarded the cash personally it all helps to pay off my debts!Amount being claimed from Nationwide - £2794.50 + £524.09 in interest = £3318.59 + court fees = £3438.59

Well done for getting offer via e mail, at least it looks like your heading in the right direction, i hope the letter comes for you tomorrow, seems to me(not being impatient) maybe a bit! that it takes nearly as long as their eight weeks at the moment for them to actually send letter notifying you and waiting for money to finally go in your account. I did read on one of the hsbc success stories a lady got paid out within 4wks from start to finish. it was only a small amount about £600 i think , so maybe the lower the claim the quicker the response. Just a theory on my part.
Anyway good luck and let me know as soon as you have received letter, give us all some inspiration.

P s. Just an after thought if your busy today why not try and send e mail via your online banking, they reply quick on that.
Hiya desperate lou i have to differ with your opinion about the smaller claims getting sorted quicker , our claim is for only £478 and we are in our 12th week of waiting for the offer . We did get a phone call on friday though saying they are going to offer us the full amount but seeing will be beleiving lol .
Good luck everyone with hsbc they are by far the worst bank ever0 -
Hi Guys,
I have now had my transfer of proceedings through yesterday for the court, I have been transferred from northampton to lincoln, however I have nto had an AQ in the pack, there is what looks like a copy of HSBC's defence in there.
Is this correct or should I call the courts/DG to find out exactly what is going on?
Many Thanks in advance
Craig
Craig
I am now in the same position as you. My case has been transfered to Huntingdon. I also have a copy of the defence, states something like the charges are are fully disclosed etc. Any idea what to do now?
thanks
