Lo all'
Im currently battling the likes of Lloyds, Barclays, Barclaycard and Capitol One at various stages.
I initially sent my Data Protection Act request off to HSBC on the 28th of March as per template. I did not initially know of my account number, so supplied all relevant information short of my pet cats name an kitchen sink for the chaps down at team HSBC to figure out my account number.
I recieved a letter form them on the 14 May asking me to confirm my identity (in which they supplied my account number) so off i trundled to my local branch to confirm that i was who i proposed i was. they took a copy of my passport and i was informed i would recieve the statements 'shortly'
It would appear that 'shortly' in banking terms means nothing at all. They have more than doubled the time outlined by the data commissioner in dealing with my request.
I sent off a LBA regarding court action for compliance five days ago, I also emailed the letter to all the 'customer complaints/service quality' emails i could find. Phoned the personal banking service who said they woudl get back to me, so on...
My question is primarily: Does anybody know the best way to get in touch with the cretins up at Data Protection Act requests, I have only a mobile and i've wasted inumerous amounts of my money listening to beethoven on loop to be told i was in queue etc. before running out of credit. I dont really want to go to court for such a simple request.
Sorry for the long post.

Hi ya Ukcrow,
Might be best as you haven t got a landline to pop into your local branch and get them to phone while your there. Have you received your bank statements yet? if not i would check that they have received your banks confirmation at your local branch of your identity, you might find that they have started the 60 days from the date you went into you local branch.
Have you registered for online banking you can call up all your information for the six years on that.
think the best thing you can though is go to your local branch, they might even be able to get your statements for you there, some people on here have done that.
Hope that helps a bit
good luck

Hey all!
Am currently in the process of claiming back money with Nationwide (£3133 inc. int.), and thought I might try claiming back with HSBC. However, got myself into a lot of financial difficulty when I banked with them, and ended up having my accounts passed onto a debt recovery agency. Messed things up a little and ended up with a county court judgement on what I owe HSBC (but am now dealing with my debt, and have kept up with all payments and learnt from my mistakes - with a lot of help from this website). Had 3 accounts in total with them, and should imagine that I racked up a lot of charges.
Is there anyone else in a similar situation who is/has tried claiming the money back? As this is now nearly 3 years on how would I go about starting the claim, if it is at all possible?Amount being claimed from Nationwide - £2794.50 + £524.09 in interest = £3318.59 + court fees = £3438.59
lodged with Moneyclaim online 29/06/2007
Amount to be claimed from HSBC - £730.00 (charges only). Email sent to customer relations 01/07/2007 & letter sent by recorded delivery 02/07/2007 (to be on the safe side!!!!!!)

Nice one for that info Sanfardo.
I sent in my claim for £2230, including interest last Friday, and recieved a very polite letter today saying they would look into it. I treated it with disdain at first, but I shall now wait patiently for their next move having read your posts!0 -
I've been offered £2,508.00 by HSBC.
i'd like to accept this but also ask them politely for the £300 i've been charged for since i first put my claim in motion. is there a template letter or a sample anyone has that i could use please.
also a massive thank you to martin and the M.S.E. team. i couldn't have done any of this without you. thanks again!!!

I've reached 7 weeks tomorrow, so will be giving them a ring to chase up, as I was informed to do by a very nice lady @ Leeds. I know some people have had a pretty !!!!!! experience with HSBC, but they do (normally) seem to come up with an offer around 8 weeks. Traceppp, I feel really sorry for you, as i'm quite shocked you didn't even get a 'poor' offer as I expected you may. Seems a bit out of sync with what HSBC are doing. I do agree with sanfardo that there is some hysteria on the board, but not really in this thread. Far to many times I see people asking for advice, only to be bluntly told, go to the next step, follow your timetable not theirs. A lot of people are regretting that now, and I feel people should base what they do with any particular bank, based on all the evidence and facts. There is a lot of usefull information here, but then again, sadly, far too many people can't be bothered to read through it, and ask the same questions, time and time again. Wish me luck, I doubt i'll get an answer, but was told to ring in the last week for an updateWage Day Advance, Quick Quid, Pounds to Pocket and Pounds Till Payday....i'm after you0
