Reclaimed charges on 3 accounts from HSBC. Business account was split off from other 2 and handled by an office in London, took about 3 weeks for offer, and cheque arrived a week later. Completely different story for the 2 claims being handled by Leeds. After learning on this thread that they seemed to be taking the 8 week route regardless of what the customer says, I decided to delay moneyclaim, and go with the 8 weeks. Phone call to them in 8th week, and was advised that the claims for each account were being handled individaully, and one was 7 days later on the system as they had to photocopy my letter, which apparently took a week! 1st claim 8 weeks was up on 8th June, but when rang was told it woudl be an extra day or two, due to volume. Rang 11th, nothing, rang 12th, and told an offer was in the system and would be posted (hooray, I thought) but it would take up to 7 days to arrive, as it had to go "through legal" first, for approval. However, on 14th, received 2 letters dated 12th June saying saying sorry for delay, due to volume my claim woudl not be looked at until 12th July!!!! Rang Leeds straight away, to check that these letters were not instead of the offer letter, and was advised to ignore them, "just system generated", offer absolutley in the system. Gave them an extra week, rang today as still nothing in post, and amazed to be told that in fact no offer on way, all info given in last phone call wrong, the letter on its way was the system generated one. My claims were being looked at together, and would take longer as they are on closed accounts. Eventually spoke to a manager, making quite clear this timescale was not acceptable, and would actually be 12 weeks not 8 weeks. He insisted I had not been lied to, I insisted I had and requested they listen to the tapes of the phone calls. By way of an incentive to shut me up (I think) he said that the 12th July date was the outside limit, and actually my claim was "diaried to be looked at on 2nd July". I reminded him of the FSA rules, and Ombudsman's requirements, and demanded it be looked at "at once" (although I don't hold out much hope they will do so). Followed this straight up with written complaint. Now just waiting again! My sympathies to everyone else being mucked around by HSBC!0

Absolutely speechless for once!!!!!!
What the hell are they doing, i think they are in a real mess up in Leeds.
There are others getting their money back who have waited less time.
Unbelievable

I am just in the process of starting my claim, but I have a couple of questions, if anyone out there is kind enough to help.
- I have got the last 6 years of statements from the HSBC website and put them in a spreadsheet. However, there is no description on the charges, it just says 'Charges' or 'Total Charges'. I am concerned that if I submit this to them they will say that there is not enough information and return the claim - a delaying tactic. Are these descriptions enough?
- I have 2 accounts with charges that I wish to claim; 1 with around £3200 (plus interested) and another with £800 (plus interest). Can I do both of these in the same claim, or do they need to be separate?
- Finally - an odd thing happened to me yesterday. I have gone onto the HSBC website to get my charge details a few times over the last few days. At around lunchtime yesterday I got a call from HSBC - basically about nothing. Ostensibly they were asking if i wanted to change my credit card into a loan, but I said that I was sorting out my finances right now and didn't want to make any decisions. The person from HSBC then asked me 'can you tell me what financial decisions you are trying to make'?? Then when I fobbed her off, she said 'Is there anything I can help you with at the moment? Anything at all?'
Basically, I think that HSBC are watching who accesses their old statements, and then calling them to find out what they are up to. Call me paranoid, but....
Good luck with your claim!!0 -

Gwen,
As Lou said what the hell are they doing?
Must be so frustrating, hope you get some good news soon.
Lou,
I had the same thing with the statements, called and wrote and it took them months and to this day i have only about a third of the statements i should have. I first asked on 5th of Feb! 40 days my ****. Best of luck hope you get a result soon.
No bank can be this badly run. It's insulting that they would think that customers would beleive the rubbish they come out with to delay repaying money taken unlawfully.
I expect it takes a very short amount of time to investigate each claim. With the right system in place it would be easy to validate that a particular customer has added up the charges correctly.
I really must let got of this now!!

Go to bed !! You're as bad as I am, catching up on my 'crusade' at this hour of the morning. The rest of my clan are snoring away, and here I am unable to think of very much else.
I keep reminding myself that the only outlay I will actually 'lose' over this, is the £120 it cost me via MCOL. Otherwise, if this 'revolution' had never happened, I'd have written it off like everyone else.
It pays to remember that sometimes. But in the meantime, I wish they'd pull their collective fingers out of their collective orifices and pay those of us who have been savvy enough to ask for it ;-)Buzz Lightale

Claimed £614 (with interest)
Recieved £463
started back in april. This is what my sister has just been offered from HSBC and she is accepting. We both started our claim at the same time but i went down the court route because my interest comes to £600. We both sent the first and second letter demanding our money back with interest within 14 days. they replied to both of us saying that they're entitled to 8 weeks. (I only normally get about 10 days notice when they take my money from my account)
My sister gave them the 8 weeks, knowing they wouldn't pay her interest but also because reading other people's very helpful threads, stating that you do get a reasonable offer at the end of the 8 weeks. It really is up to yourself in which avenue you choose to go down.
They have aknowledged and defended my claim, i have sent my breakdown of charges (recalculated - more interest), a copy of a the claim (pdf print out from the net) and a covering letter stating:
I sent it via email:kateeaves@hsbc.com' and fax: 0121 455 2150

Dear Solicitor’s
<o:p> </o:p>
I am writing in regards to the claim I have put into the small claims court against HSBC Bank plc. HSBC have put in a defence against my claim for £2769.65. As my claim is still accruing interest the new total amount as of 14/06/07 is £2792.09. This amount will continue to accrue interest until the amount is settled in full and includes my court fee of £120.00
<o:p> </o:p>
I have enclosed a full detailed list of my charges and a copy of the original claim form for your information. Please do note that due to HSBC putting in a defence against my claim, that I will be taking this matter all the way to retrieve the full amount. Therefore, I will not be accepting partial offers of monies that are rightfully mine.
<o:p> </o:p>
I look forward to your response on this matter,
<o:p> </o:p>
Kind Regards
I am still awaiting their response and on a court date, I've noticed that D&G tend to settle when you've been allocated a court date
Hope this helps anyone with their HSBC claim, they are using delaying tactics to hold on to our money as long as possible. They do pay out. Let me know if this helps anyone or if you use my covering letter!!
Hopefully I'll be posting on here for myself soon.
Good luck everyone!!!!

Just think it through logically, there's no ogre at the other end. The organisation stinks but the people who work there try to do the best they can.
They've only just got to dealing with your original request for statements, due to the volume of requests they are receiving. They've sent you a letter inside 40 days letting you know the statements are on the way (in case they marginally miss the 40 day deadline).
In the meantime you found the info you needed under you own steam- nothing todo with them, they don't act on actions you undertake on internet banking unless you ask them to.
So ignore the bank statements you receive, just keep hold of them!
You sent this letter in requesting payment. It has to be dealt with by the Service Liaison team in Leeds apparently. Allow a day or two for directing it there, assuming you sent it elsewhere. Their response time is 6-8 weeks. By that time you should receive an offer for part or all of the amount you are claiming. Its up to you then if you accept or carry on.
So action to take:
Just keep hold of any statements you are sent- you've just requested information, that's nothing to do with your claim.
Follow up on your letter in say 4 weeks by phone, just to check its being processed ok.
Don't start complaining about no more correspondence until (in your case) the end of August!
Yes the charges are rightfully yours, but give the bank a chance to sort it.0
