    dear all,

I finally got through to the bank, having sent the 2nd letter offering a settlement figure. i',m claiming about 7k with interest. I spoke to the service rep who stated that the FSA had allowed them up to 8 weeks to respond to a bank charge reclaim due to the volume. She ignored everything I said re my14 day offer stating I should receive an offer letter at the end of the 8 weeks (11th July).

Has the FSA made such a ruling?, should I ignore them & go straight to court ?
    any suggestions welcome.

PS this is my 1st post

Loads of people have waited the eight weeks and got offers - I got offered 85% of the charges as a full and final settlement in a letter yesterday. I'd look at how much 85% is of your total charges minus interest and decided whether you'd settle for that amount. If so, hang out and wait. If not, and you are up for it, maybe head for the MCOL now to save some time.
Got £820 back from HSBC! Now entering comps like mad with the hope of winning a nice long holiday....

Pain in the bum, but yes I think you'll have to go thru the same process, which is exactly what i'm going to do once all mine are sorted, as they are still charging exhorbitant fees! It might mean they'll pay up more quickly being as tho you have already claimed.

    Trace x

thanks for letting me know... off i go again then!

still hoping somebody can let me know what address im supposed to be sending this accepting their offer letter back to?

    Hi wallofbeans.

I sent my acceptance of the banks offer to the address at the bottom of the letter. Starts with "Service Management - CPT" etc - is in Leeds. I sent it back recorded delivery and have just checked the Royal Mail and it was signed for yesterday. I have just done the same today with the acceptance letter for my other bank account.

Make sure you send it recorded delivery tho, then you have proof they've got it. Should be 14 days from when they receive it that you get the money back to your bank account.

    Good luck!

Unfortunately the 8 week ruling is in place and has been for a long time now. Having spoke to someone myself today at the service centre, she has explained they are inundated with requests and are struggling to get through them, so it will be 8 weeks rather than less. Its up to you whether you want to head for the court route based on that. How desperate are you for the money?, do you want the interest?, are you prepared for court? 8 weeks seems to be less hassle and will give a result, although not necessarily everything your after, and certainly no interest. The court route is more stressfull, and could actually take longer, but the result tends to be a full refund, and interest + court fee. Its really up to you how you wish to proceed

What did disturb me about the conversation I had with the very nice woman @ HSBC service centre, Leeds, was she was surprised I was polite. Turns out a lot of people have been pretty rude when dealing with the staff there. Thats pretty out of order. These guys are just doing their job, and treating them poorly isn't going to help anyone. Turns out the whole department has been turned over to dealing with "reclaiming charges" as they are receiving 1,000's every week
Wage Day Advance, Quick Quid, Pounds to Pocket and Pounds Till Payday....i'm after you
  • Exactly the same thing happened to me! I phoned for the first time today and spoke to a lovely lady who thanked me for being so polite and considerate! She told me my 8 weeks are up on 24th July (her birthday) and said we should both have something to celebrate!!!!:o
So, I've decided to wait and see what happens!!........

Does anyone know if its worthwhile trying to contact DG solicitors to get things moving quicker. I've previously read that eventually they write to most asking for copy of the charges list which they state they never had, could i just fax this? if so anyone have a number?

Also has anyone tried speaking to them to convince them its not worth them taking it further, because i can't imagine many people get this far and then back out?

    Thanks.

  • Hi All,

A newbie here. I am in the middle of a claim from HSBC for £6879.73 as charges from April 2001 to April 2007.They have sent a letter back acknowledging the claim and are giving me the standard 8 week story. I have now sent them a letter willing to accept £5159.79 if they pay within the 14day period that I have specified. What are the chances of getting this sum within the 14 day timescale.

Just wanted to know if any members have had success stories????
