Hi i was wondering if you can help me, i knew that i was going to go overdrawn so i called my bank and asked for a overdraft for doing this they charged me £25.00 i then needed to up my overdraft so again i was charged £25 then i requested that my temp limit be extended for another month and guess what i was charged again! I didnt realise this till i got my statement through and it said i was having £125.00 taken from my account in arrangement fees for one month, i might aswell let myself go over drawn i would of been charged less!
I wrote a letter to complain and the reply i got back was i dont get charged for having a direct debit facility on my account and dont get charged for my wages being put into my account, but i do pay a charge on my account each month!
Can I claim these arrangement fees back??
Wow they knew full well they were ripping you off there then. I would totally exhaust their complaints procedure and take the matter to the Financial Ombudsman if they do not resolve it to your satisfaction. Since they are technically service charges and you asked for them they arent reclaimable in court I dont think but I would fight hard at the complete and utter mishandling of your account. Good luck

Hi
Still waiting no word yet either way.
It's not fair that the banks can play the system like this, you only have to read these threads to know that is does frighten people. I think if anything the courts should penalise the banks for the hassle, i reckon massive compensation payouts would be good. I wonder if anyone has ever tried that!

I wrote to HSBC claimimg £2200, inc interest. They wrote back (after my threat to start court action) offering £1400. I rang to say I wanted to negotiate the amount, and was told I'd have to write a letter.
I'd read about another user here, who succesfully got a response from HSBC via a few emails. I tried this, and was just told my email was being dealt with by the appropriate dept.
This was a few weeks ago, and I've not done anything - largely due to being really busy at work.
I will start a claim with MCOL in a day or two, when I put the amount I'm claiming, do I recalculate the interest, as my claim was started in early February, and I'm sure there'd be a few more quid to add ??
Also, having not kept the ball rolling and let it simmer for a few weeks, have I endangered my chances ??
By leaving things to simmer will not have any effect on the outcome... so - yes, you can add a smidge more interest if you like.
You'll have the figure you're claiming with the interest when you started writing to the bank. If you multiply that figure by 0.00022 you will get your daily rate of interest. Work out how many days since you first wrote with your original figure including interest until the date of claim and multiply it by the daily rate. When you come to the Particulars of Claim you'll add that additional interest amount onto the interest figure you're claiming. You'll only get a few more £s but you may as well claim it!Lou0 -
I sent my letter to HSBC dating back to 27th Feb, only had a letter saying they were investigating. I've since sent a reply via their online messaging asking what the status is, and informing them I will be taking the next steps to get the matter resolved (court).0

hello again all...
right well i sent my 1st letter to HSBC on 2nd April and just got a reply now saying..
I am looking into matters you have raised and will contact you with a full response as soon as I have completed my investigations.
it also states that they have enclosed a copy leaflet which explains how these matters are dealt with. (I did not get this just the letter!)
So what do I do....go ahead with my 2nd letter?
Many thanks in advance

Yes - stick to your timetable.
This is HSBC's usual delaying tactic (the letter is probably from Colin Langsdale) - so just go ahead to the next stage.0 -
