Tesco Complaints - Who to Escalate To?

  • Hi
    Am I being unreasonable?
My husband's £289 frameless glasses purchased from Tesco Opticians in Ely, Cambridgeshire broke when he put them on at the weekend. (The arm wire broke where it goes through the lens on one arm.)
I took them into the store yesterday (the earliest I could), and was told it was a pity I hadn't brought them in the day before because that was when the warranty ran out!
So although the glasses broke under fairly light normal usage (and tesco agreed they showed normal wear and tear) while under warranty, Tesco refuse to honour the warranty because they were brought in the next day.
So all this is extremely poor, bu my question is this. How long is a one year warranty and what does it mean? If a product fails in the last hour of it's warranty and it took you an hour and 5 minutes to get to the store, should the store honour the warranty - legally?
    Thanks for your views.

  • Hi,
Thought I would let you all know, I just had to make a complaint about their own brand of bread and I thought of posting it to a blog forum, but I thought I would call first and see what they say. I have been refunded for 3 loaves and also have a £5 off my next shop :)

So Id advise to call - you never know! x
  • Hi i hope someone can please help.
After collecting a prescription for my 16 month old daughter yesterday i get home to find it expired 10/2010.

Thankfully i noticed before i gave her it as the side affects listed were already horrific enough without it being the best part of a year out of date.

I complained to the pharmacy over the phone twice yesterday evening and the gentleman admitted it was his or one others fault and he would write a report card on it and leave it for the other staff as he only worked that day.

I want to make a more formal complaint about this but don't know where to start or who to send this to. Who are the pharmacy's even governed by? I'm not sure Tesco stores would even be particularly bothered to deal with my complaint.

Any help on how to escalate this would be greatly appreciated, i am mortified about what has happened and don't want to leave to go unnoticed. I did get the name of the pharmacist/technician.

    Many Thanks

why would you say that tesco wouldn't be bothered with your complaint when you haven't written to them yet?
    helpful tips
    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)
  • Who am i writing to Tesco store, tesco head office or something more specific to the pharmacy or some sort of clinical governance.

The pharmacys standards wont be managed by a tesco store manager but the NHS or similar shorly. They cant go handing out dangerous drugs willy nilly with no governance.

Our Tesco store is only one of the smaller ones in a semi rural location where everyone knows everone and i have heard of the store manager not being particulary helpfull. Not sure im going to get anywhere with him.

I was only hoping someone may give a little helpfull advice on where to start?

  • Thanks that wasn't too difficult was it. :T

I was only asking a simple and polite question requesting a simple reply. Not two hostile posts, one unneccasary and a complete waste of your own time. Another add to the post count for you though.

    What a wonderfull warm welcome!
