Boots offers

I took the receipt over to them last week, made no difference. In fact may have made things worse. I was refunded 6pound more than i paid for the item, not sure why? Unless it was on offer or it could be because the vat has changed? I hadn't realised this at the time. I gave my ad card so that the points could be removed etc. Seemed very straightforward at the time. I origonally paid for the epilater with my love 2 shop vouchers i saved all year for so i knew i could only get a boots giftcard refund anyway. The cps willl now decide what happens from here after their investigation.
Until it happens you cant say how you will react. The security man acted like a police man and i was literally shaking. He took everything from my bag. They still have it all as 'evidence'.
I have spent many hours last week on the internet reading many smilar stories, the security men are called Loss Prevention Officers. (lp's for short)
I have never been in trouble with the police before- its horrible.
BTW- i declined a solicitor at the holding suite. I felt strongly that i could simply explain and in a weird kind of way thought that asking for a solicitor would make me seem guilty?? BIG MISTAKE apparently- everything i have read on the internet after what happened says ALWAYS HAVE THE FREE SOLICITOR.
I have one now, he will be at my bail hearing in May.
This is beyond disgraceful! How can this possibly be remotely legal?? I'm pretty sure I remember reading about similar tactics on a Tesco thread and it being mentioned on there that these store security guards DO NOT have the right to search you, demand your bag, it's contents or anything - only the police can do that.
I do hope you get this sorted out soon - digraceful behaviour on the part of Boots0 -

I reckon boots hide the cheaper stuff when these offers are on because I don't remember even seeing this one today but I'll have a better look next time!
I've been to a couple of store's that haven't had any, as this is one of the cheapest things you can buy with the voucher I assumed they had just sold out! My local store tend to restock during the day so if the shelf is empty, it's worth checking back later in the day if you can!
The Time Delay Radiance balm is another good buy, equal to the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm in my opinion!

Thankyou for all the support, it means alot.
To answer someones earlier question- you CAN be arrested on suspicsion of anything illegal. I haven't actually been charged with anything. The wait is horrible.
I was in a state the first few days, I was convinced they were going to search the house?? I was so paranoid about disposing of my boots stash.
It go's back years. Remember when no7 suncream was on 6 for 1, the free highlight powder with any purchase coupon, squillions of time delay and no7 from the never ending 5pound vouchers............
My solicitor has asked the police for some of my stuff back. My DS is moaning because they have his gamestation trade-in card and a HMV giftcard he had for xmas. I haven't heard anything yet though.
They have all my remaining vouchers that i never spent before xmas. I have them from PARK through a friend who is an agent. I explained all this at my interview, dave her details. They think they're from refund-frauding other stores.
I don't know what to say- I never thought it could happen but it did. My solicitor is very optomistic that i wont be charged with anything. My DNA and fingerprints will be on the system forever though-that hurts.

You are right, they dont have the right.
They cant make you go into the security room,
They cant search your belongings,
You dont have to give them your name, (it then costs them 60pound to get your name from the police if they want to come after you for civil recovery)
I found this all out after the event. I was in shock at the time and like I say he was very over-powering. i just did as I was told.

Foxy lady, you poor thing. We are all RIGHT behind you. Wish we could do more. It's big of you to share this experience and your advice with us all - who knows which one of us may be next <shudder>
Hope this isn't going to affect your happy signature....Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
I, too, am absolutely horrified by your experience, FoxyLady. I hope it works out OK in the end -- just make sure Boots gives you compensation. (I wonder if they would have reacted like that if you had just done an exchange? Any time I have tried to return something without a receipt -- not something I will now do in a hurry! -- they have refused to put it on a giftcard and I've had to do a swop.) Thank you to the OP who pointed to the clip -- horrible.
It may be worth picking up SandraScarlett's tip about the reference no. I bought three UG sets for £10 and like a muppet didn't notice that one had the hairspray missing. Rang CS and spoke to a really lovely person who wrote it all down and gave me a reference number. I had no problems swopping it for a complete set. Will do this in future if I have something to return without a receipt.0 -
SandraScarlett wrote: »Foxy-lady, there is something very wrong about this. In the first instance, Boots have always said that without a receipt, they will exchange anything, with some exceptions, like cosmetics, or food.
Secondly, you said that the SA had given you a gift card and then, 10 seconds later, the security guard arrested you and contacted the police as he suspected refund fraud? Someone must have signalled for him to do so. Have you contacted Boots Customer Services about this? It seems outrageous.
That is how it happened. Policy does say "happily exchange" but the SA refunded onto a giftcard. I have no idea why he came over? I dont dress like victoria beckham but i dont look like im off 'Shameless" either!!
I went straight to the counter- i hadn't been wandering around the store for ages. I had already bought what i needed in my closer boots that morning before i went into Argos.
I dont want to say what store it was at this point.
My solicitor has advised me not to contact customer services as they are liasing with the CPS/police for the investigation.
My online account has been shut down- they aren't messing about.

(((Hugs))) FoxyLady - I am totally shocked at what has happened to you. I truly hope you get the situation resolved and a huge apologies from Boots
The ACM wasn't particularly kind to me today - the only voucher worth having was the third off deodorant. So I picked up the Dove roll on - just the one mind!!! Tara Thanks for the tip on pressing the "print" repeatedly. I assume you mean keep pressing it quickly rather than removing your card and putting it back each time?
I also got the 6 pack of wipes :j
Forgot to use my skinnie voucher though, so may pop in tomorrow and see if they have any of the Sanctuary facewash in.
Great thread - thanks for the posts0 -
Sorry, hope I didn't offend you! Just wanted to warn others really as well, you never know who may be reading these threads and getting ideas that may get them into trouble.
no worries
i was thinking that as i wrote it actually-that i hope no-one gets ideas but i also couldn't believe that their self serve system with the coupons is potentially open to abuse
just a side point with the printing off of "X" number of coupons-potentially if people are getting upto 15 at a time-aren't the SA's questioning this at all? isn't there a limit to the number they will let you use at once? how did you manage to get them all through the SS till , does it accept it all as one transaction or did you have to do each item individually. I don't think I would have had the guts to do this 3 lots of 3 was about my limit before I got flustered and called it a day!
lol!
ps foxy lady I didn't say in prev post but my heart goes out to you, hang in there XXGRATITUDE WHEN GIVEN, PATIENCE WHEN DENIED
Please press the thanks button when someone has helped!0 -
