Not sure that your list of passengers is relevant! LOL
TomTom doesn't sense the presence of cameras, it just has a database of co-ordinates of camera locations which were current at around the date you downloaded the database.
The TomTom database is pretty poor even when supposedly 'up-to-date'.
https://www.pocketgpsworld.com is the definitive source for a camera database and much better software implementation on TomTom.
Some managed motorway gantries have GATSO cameras on the back.
Did you get any camera flashes after you passed under them?
If the speed limit signs on the gantries were not lit, then the speed limit was 70, UNLESS there was a roadworks speed limit in place and SPECS cameras in use.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Hi there, I am not used to driving on the motorway, infact that is the very first time I have ever drove down as far as Birmingham and I have drove my car/cars for 10 years. I always tend to just stick to the roads I know.
If no gantries were lit and say for instance there was one sign which I honestly did not see at the beginning of this very long traffice management area of the M6 (not sure exactly, but it wasn't that long before j2 where I went off the mtorway at.), would there be a fine and 3 points for every gantry you go under?
I have me with my licence lost now for driving over 50mph. If I lose my licence it will effect my job, it would be so difficult which could ultimatly mean I lose my job and then lose my home. I am so so worried

Hi again, what does a spec camera look like? I never had any flashes???? When your caught on these sorts of roads is it not just a recorded video image?
I will be a bag of nereves for the next 2 weeks then, i wish I could just know just now. So i can come to terms with not being able to drive

What speed was everyone else doing?
Were you passing all the traffic or was it all passing you or doing the same speed?
That will give you a clue as to your chances of getting any speeding tickets.
SPECS cameras record each vehicle passing the camera and fines are potentially triggered if you didn't take long enough to reach any subsequent SPECS camera in a set of cameras (ie in a length of roadworks or in a permanent SPECS camera zone). No flashes with these - they use infrared (night vision) cameras.
Most speed cameras will be set at at least 10% over the speed limit, if they are on at all.
A typical SPECS camera:

I was at j4 I think and this was about 3 am, the over head gantries were in darkenss and the road was clear apart from lorries that were in the inside lane.
I am ill with worry over this as I had no idea that there was any speeds at 50 in place. The only thing that alerted me that there may have been problem is that each time I drove under the gantry my Tom Tom made this strange noise and a symbol flashed on the top left hand side of the screen. however the bottom right hand side said this was a 70mph.0 -

Were there any 50mph roadworks signs in place?
You will have seen one every 450-700 metres if there were (ie at least 2 per minute at the speed you were driving), because that is how far apart they are allowed to be.
If there weren't any, you will be OK.
You need to update your speed camera database.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

There are no signs there as there are no roadworks in progress, the OP probably would not have seen the specs in the dark, but then would have certainley noticed the roadworks, but there are none there.
I'm surprised/dissapointed the OP is not seeking advice on how to update the database as this occurance will happen again until the databse is up to date

No, I never seen one..............would it have been placed in between the cones and would it have a red circle round it with the speed written clearly in it? If I did I would have immediately drove within the limit. Are they visibly displayed so that you can see them? I was in the middle lane and all I can remember is the flashing amber cones, though each time I went under a gantry which was blank the TT beeped and symbol flashed on the left hand side. I was very nervous as I didn't know what to drive at as there was nothing to tell me. I kept looking up at the black and white camera's though there was nothing wrtten on the boards.
Why woud the TT make a beep each time I went under a gantry?
Thanks so much for your advice.0 -
Hi again, thankyou both for enlightening me and as soon as I can get to grips with this fright and possible PP I will need to try and seek advice on updating the TT.
Is it possible for them to leave cones flashing though, have no road works in place? Woud they normally have the motorway lit up with visible signs that i would have clearly seen as I drove?0 -

because your device is operating with data that is no longer valid.
When did you drive along this section? As there no roadworks along that section at present or recently.0
