    UPDATE: So Direct Line unilaterally decided to cancel my policy. 8 days later and they're still hanging on to my premium!!!!

    I was with Direct Line for 5 years. Had a claim and it was all straightfoward. Last year we bought a new car and got cheaper insurance through the garage where we bought the car but the premium jumped this year. Now we've went back to Direct Line.

    Well I think they should refund you any balance, based on a straightforward time on risk calculated on the original premium quoted.

    Send them a recorded delivery letter demanding this. This is what the FOS and FSA would expect.
