However on some threads, people are suggesting that you bank the cheque, tell the bank that you are declining their offer, but say that you will keep the cheque as part payment for the full amount. I think Wragge and Co are being employed purely to put the frighteners on. They will probably get us all in court for the same day. Chances are that they won't be around to defend though.
I have already prepared some of my speech for court if necessary, including case law etc.
Although this site has a good interest calculator on it, if anyone wants a copy of a spreadsheet i designed, automatically calculating interest and culumative charges total, just give me a buzz. Would be an idea if one of us listed those of us in the same position with Wragge & Co, and the timeline we are all at, would be interesting to see if there is a pattern building i.e. standard letters sent out in a batch.
I would hazard a guess that the letters are even exactly the same in content.
Good luck everyone, probably see you in Northampton soon !!!!!!!!0 -

Hi and welcome
I asked for my statements in November, they arrived in early January over the 40 days, it took apprx 7 weeks from working out the charges they had applied, to recieving my cheque, good luck. It wasnt difficult at all, just follow Martins instructions, and you cant go wrong. I was worried about my claim being over 5K but it was straight forward.
HI, SORRY FOR LATE REPLY BUT THANK YOU ANYWAY, I HAVE RECEIVED MY LETTERS FROM A&L SAYING THAT THEY ARE DEFENDING, WHICH IM A BIT SCARED ABOUT, THEY OFFERED ME £600.00 AGAINST THE £2300.00 THAT THEY OWE ME, I HAVE POLITELY REFUSED THIS OFFER AND CARRIED ON, I HAVE NOW CHECKED MY MCOL STATUS AND IT NOW SAYS THAT THEY HAVE ENTERED A DEFENCE AND MCOL SAYS THAT THEY CAN NO LONGER HELP ME ONLINE AND THAT I WILL RECEIVE A DATE VIA THE POST, WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN? WILL I BE GOING TO COURT? AM A LITTLE SCARED NOW, I HOPE THAT YOU CAN REPLY TO ME. THANK YOU.0 -
Yesterday my father received a paltry offer and letter from Wragge & Co solicitors saying they will defend. I will now advise him to keep it as part payment.
However, the next step is to fill out an Allocation Questionaire. They Money Claim site will be charging yet another fee for this document.
Will I be able to add this fee to his original claim and who do we put down in the section where it asks about witnesses and experts? Surely I cant put down Martin or this website... can I??
Should I just send this claim off straight away as there are no dates and should I leave the Court date to be in Northampton in the hope it wont happen or just put in details of my local County Court
Thanks in advance0 -
Hi all
I managed to get all my charges, interest and costs back from A&L but had to go through mcol to get it. Followed MSE instructions to the letter, sent every letter, they kept saying no so I took them to the small claims court.
They acknowledged service, ticked the box on form to say they were going to defend. They had 28 days to respond to court, three days later a cheque for all of my claim and court costs appeared in the post. :j :j :j :j
Don't be scared to go for it, even it if gets as far as court there is loads of great information and advice on here.
Good luck to all you A&L customers!

HI, I HAVE JUST CHECKED MY MCOL STATUS AND A&L HAVE ENTERED A DEFENCE AND MCOL HAVE SAID THAT I WILL KNOW RECIEVE A DATE FOR A HEARING, AM BIT SCARED NOW, THEY OWE ME £23OO AND COURT CHARGES OF £120, THEY DID OFFER ME £600 BUT I POLITELY REFUSED, SHOUL I HAVE ACCEPTED THAT AMOUNT, AND IF I DO HAVE TO GO TO COURT DO I HAVE TO TRAVEL TO NORTHAMPTON, AS I LIVE IN MERSEYSIDE, LIVERPOOL,0 -
just thought id give an update on my A&L claim. (£1500)
sent the 2 letters off mid jan, both times got relpies telling me the charges are correct. filed my claim on MCOL on 26/01. it was acknowledged on 01/02/07. confirmation of this 'acknowledgement of service' was sent through the post to me. on this receipt they have ticked the box 'i intend to defend all of this claim' and its signed by A&L solicitor.
can anyone else who has made a succesful claim confirm that this is pretty standard procedure? it reads that they have 28 days to prepare their defence? so i take it they are gonna defend my claim?
also, it appears that northampton county court has been allocated this case, which is certainly not local to me. can this be changed?
thanks for any advice...

HI, I HAVE JUST READ YOUR LETTER AND I AM IN EXACTLY THE SAME POSITION AS YOU ARE, I ALSO RECEIVED MY 2 LETTERS STATING THAT MY CHARGES WERE FAIR, I STUCK TO THE DEADLINES AND THEN FILED MY MCOL, I THEN RECEIVED AN OFFER OF JUST OVER £600 WHICH IF I HAD ACCEPTED THEY WOULD HAVE CLOSED THE MATTER, I POLITELY REFUSED AND SENT THE CHEQUE BACK, AS MY CHARGES AMOUNT TO £23OO + MY COURT COSTS,I HAVE NOW CHECKED MY MCOL STATUS AND THEY ARE GOING TO DEFEND AND MCOL HAVE SAID THAT I CAN NOW LONGER BE HELPED ONLINE AND THAT I WILL GET A DATE FOR COUNTY COURT SOON VIA THE POST, ALSO I DONT LIVE NEAR NORTHAMPTON, SO AM HOPING IT WILL BE A COURT LOCAL TO ME, WAS JUST WONDERING HAVE YOU HEARD ANY MORE REGARDING YOUR CHARGES, THANK YOU FOR READIND AND WOULD BE GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD REPLY0 -

hi there, haven't looked on here for a while. i submitted our claim with mcol on 30th april, had ltr off them confirming on 2nd may, and the next day ltr off a&l with copied print out from the mcol site titled acknowledgement of service. what exactly does this mean?? haven't had anything yet from this wragge & co solicitors, or is it too early yet?? also, i'm a bit worried if they close (or threaten to) our account - we are pretty much permanently in our £1200 o/draft, how the hell are we supposed to clear that if they close our account?!?!?!?!? our mortgage is with them and has only been for just over 12 mths, so i'm hoping they won't go down that line...0
