HI chrissie
WHAT A FAB IDEA- she is Very canny with money and actually might like the complexity of the challenge I may show her the thread How much do you spend on food - AND she is actually really good at baking - she won the cupcake prize at the village show last year with her very first entry, (I told you she was talented). I have been looking out for a small chest freezer on gumtree and freecycle to fill so she can help with that search to.
RAS I also did my own research instead of being a helpless twit and found all the stuff for Statement of Disass. and sent her the info BIG thanks for the heads up on that one.
ALL OF YOU GUYS ARE ABSOLUTLELY 'TOP-HOLE and I always feel so much better after being on here!!!:rotfl::rotfl:(My first 'thingies'!)debt free 2021 at current DMP rate (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0 -
Anopthe thought on the joint account/money problem.
Her university will have a hardship fund. They may give her a grant or loan to tide her over, particularly if she explains that the problem was "caused" by an absent minded mum.
She needs to speak to the Welfare Officer at the Union and/or the Student Finance Office. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Hello Tugrin, I wandered across your thread about an hour ago and got hooked!
Commiserations about your daughter. Boys are easier in many ways! Reading between the lines, does she eat the way you used to spend - i.e. to make herself feel better?
I'm very sorry to hear about the situation at your work. I know teachers always put in well above the hours they get paid for, use their own resources and often have very serious work-related stress sickness (and even worse)... just the situation where you need a pat on the back for what you do rather than an undermining.
I do think you've done some great stuff towards putting your finances right. :T:T:T As you go on you will find more ways and become more adept at turning the situation round.
By the way you seem to have found some lovely people to support you!
Best wishes,
MiggyMiggy

Hi- I'd like to get involved on this one if I may- I've been fairly active on the DCM (Gone into administration) thread, but after going through this thread- hi all.
It makes me much more reassured that I am not alone- I have racked up a total of, roughly £22500 of debt over a 10 year period. To be fair, I have, along with my wife, brought up three kids (Who are now all great adults), got married, gone through university, and we've had another little one, and to be honest, going into debt was a slow process that was used just to get by from month to month.
Then the worrying started- what if something were to happen to my wife and I? who would sort the debt out? in short, the debt slowly but surely became a black dog.
We went to DCM money solutions a few years ago, and we were assured that £200 a month would sort it all out, and like a fool we thought the creditors were getting paid, and we casually ignored all the creditors, as told. God, the arrogance. Then last week we found out that DCM were no more- goodbye £5000- the money it wasn't paying over to our creditors.
Having my wife cry in my arms was horrible, but something in me calmed-I'm OK, and it'll work out.
We're speaking to the CCCS today with a view to getting debt free. I don't anticipate a quick road, but it'll be worth it.
Knowing this site is here, and there are so many of you here that are in the same boat fills me with optimism, so once again Hi, and let the journey begin.x.

Hi tugrin, I just wanted to give you a virtual ((hug)) as you sound like it's all getting on top of you.
I stumbled on your thread by accident, and you have had brilliant advice from everyone else, I just wanted to add my support.
I am so sorry you are having problems at work - I have no idea why people think teaching is an 'easy' job - I take my metaphorical hat off to you for doing it for 30 years :beer:Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

Hello Everyone
Just home after 2 nights of parents evenings - phew they really take it out of you, and THESE are the parents who care enough to come!
RAS - it' gone very quiet in the duaghter department! I sent her the info about 'disassociating herself from me@ (thats the way I phrased it - bit mean really) but have had not a peep back - have I got it wrong AGAIN?
Payday tomorrow and I have actually still got £20 in my 'tin' which I have made my new bank. Its cash from now on I have decided. I have had 3 no spend days in a row too, it all seems to be going quite well but I won't get blase prmise.
Can I have some advice on the wisdom of buying a second hand bike folks? There are 3 on gumtree for £35 each, all from same seller not great makes I think Fennesse, Ridge(?) and PRObike. My thinking is nearest town is 4 miles away, surely cyclable for a fit 21 year old and I can work up to it- is it a wortwhile expenditure. I like cycling/pottering on 2 wheels and used to always have a bike in my youth. I have got £20 left over this month - what does everone think????debt free 2021 at current DMP rate (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0 -

I'd have to have a trike.:rotfl::rotfl:
Glad you got through parents evening, my god-daughter in law says the same, she always exhausted by the time they've finished.
Maybe your daughter is just taking things onboard, I'm sure everything will be fine, she sounds like a sensible hard-working girl.
Good going to have twenty pounds left over this month, well done you!

Hi mothermercury30going into debt was a slow process that was used just to get by from month to month.
Sorry to hear you are a victim of DCM and glad that you are speaking to CCCS, you will get there. I can only say I admire your positive attitude in the situation you find yourself in, look after yourselves. The people on these boards are fantastic in the support they give, so visit often. Take care.0 -
Hello everyone!!
I am now the very proud owner of a bicycle plus helmet and lights (cost £30 - thank you Gumtree) AND I got a beautiful brand new 60 inch length of kitchen worktop from Freecycle for the kitchen renovations (eventually).
I have worked in the garden for an hour and sown tomato, beans and aubergine seeds and actually feel like I have a little bit more control over my life today. I am willing to admit it might just be the sunshine but I'm happy to go with it. DD has texted me so I'm obviously a bit forgiven!!
Sorry to hear of your problems mothermercury - I hope you get the support you need on here. I feel very lucky to have found the CCCS straight away and not got sucked into anything dubious - which is SO easy these days. Take care.debt free 2021 at current DMP rate (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0
