    How is everyone?

Had a bit of a relapse sadly. Things have kind of snowballed with having vet and car bills also. My pooch has cancer and the emotional spending started to kick in as a result and lasted about a week. Have pulled myself up again I hope as I recognised it much sooner than in the past. But somewhat disappointed in myself. :(

In the process now of looking for casual work with the council for the elections. Not sure I'll be in with a chance this May as I have only just filled out the application form as didn't know about it until a friend told me. Election work can be very lucrative - about £180 for staffing a polling booth and a little less for doing the count. The local authority that I work for are still recruiting for staff, so it may not be too late for you. Applied for the census jobs and was offered but then didn't like the idea of going round houses at night trying to get people to fill them in! Especially in this rural area.

    That's me in a nutshell... :)
The disappointment is only to be expected - the trick is not to let the feeling linger too long. Console yourself with the fact that you recognised it sooner than in the past and minimal damage has been done.

Byatt sorry to hear about your poor dog, my heart goes out to you. I know how you feel when you fall off the wagon I can totally empathise but well done on recognising it and on pulling yourself back. You're aware of it now, and that's a lot more than before so well done!

My dad does a lot of work in Alcoholics Anonymous, and things are similar with them in a way, having an addiction caused by emotional issues mostly. His advice to them, and I think it would help us too, is to take things one step at a time, and that recognising you have a problem and want to deal with it is a big step. You've recognised and are dealing....you had a relapse but now you have to say well today is a new start and I'm back on the wagon.

Thanks for the support. Just cross with myself, but like you say Darwin'smum and Bratz at least I recognised the slippery slope sooner rather than later I guess. One step at a time.

Well done for stopping things quickly.

Another couple of things you might like to try www.focusing.org. It sounds like you are actually doing somehting very similiar from your comments "i know more about why I spend than I realise" etc. There is a quite cheap book, about £7 ish I think.

The other thing to consider is Neurolinguistic Programming. Probably the opposite of focusing but it can a good at untying the knots we get ourselves into.

Hi Byatt - sorry to hear about your dog. Don't know what I would do if something happened to my doodle. Still, well done on identifying what you were doing with the spending and putting a stop to it, that's got to be a massive step forward.

I seem to now have better control over clothes, groceries, odds and sods spending but still struggling to control the food spending (takeaways, snacks and meals out) I am working on it though x

RAS - Always been interested in looking at NLP. Must have a google...
