But you said the Uni "fines" people for parking on what amounts to a load of graffiti. The Uni should be told that they can't do that, as no law has been broken.

The university can invoice anyone for whatever they want. It just so happens that they advertise that if you park on their graffiti then they will send you an invoice to pay £5.

The problem you've got now OP is that your details are flagged up as a payer, so they will send more and more randomly generated invoices for alleged breaches of contract in the hope you pay-up.

    Just ignore
  • i know and i could kick myself!!! but its a very big lesson learnt and i will just ignore with all my might!!!!!!
more invoices dont mean they have anymore entitlement to the money, i will just have to remember that in the weak times!
    thnaks

Have you viewed the whole parking board yet and read the first few threads, especially the stickies (except the Park Right sticky which is irrelevant)? Here it is:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

The top sticky by Crabman shows you all the standard letters excel use. Have a preview now and just play snap when the matching threatograms arrive in triplicate!

And another sticky by Crabman 'READ THIS FIRST' I think it's headed, includes a link to Watchdog which cpvered this generic scam a couple of times last summer. Watch that and laugh.

Personally I think you are being a little harsh on your son. Let him park there, just tell him not to overstay as you don't like the threatograms much! But just bin them - the Uni cannot withhold your son's degree if YOU don't pay an invoice to a third party. Do NOT contact the Uni about this after the threatograms stop, they will probably think that there is a 'fine' to pay and will then link it to your son if you tell them there's a link. There is no fine but Uni's and Supermarkets and the like have been hoodwinked by their PPC agents into thinking they do have that power.

Do not give anyone any information about this rubbish to anyone - except for telling your friends & family never to pay a private parking ticket.

What a shame you paid £200 to these chancers.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:

im trying to view it from the point of view that i wised up before i parted with another £300 LOL
    glass half full !!!

It might be nothing, but the only thing I would mention about university "debts" are that most universities have a clause that if you owe them money (tuition fees, library fines, accommodation fees etc) they will refuse to give you your award at the end of your studies.

I'm not sure if parking "fines" come into this, or how using a third party company or the fact the car is yours and not your son's etc etc. However if the university decide that your son is in debt to them he might be in trouble.

However I do agree with the others that you shouldn't pay them, but I think you need to check how far this will go. I do think £100 per fine is absurd! My uni hand out £5 fines for parking without a permit and parking on double yellow lines etc and they manage it themselves.
    Hi,

There is no way a uni could withhold your degree because you owed them money for things like accommodation ... they also can't fine you £5 for wrong parking neither .....

  • I think you may be wrong there, its often in the contract with them that they will withhold until things like accomodation are paid for, what leverage would they have otherwise. Does not normally apply to parking as its farmed out.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Oh they can. They'll also stop you from progressing to the next year if relevant.....
