I've always found it very reliable. I'm sure others have had faults - but who doesn't with security software. Glad to see it is still continuing.

Downloaded AVG about half a year ago, after reading the positive reviews posted on MSE Techie board, :T and I must say I am impressed with it.

    Just my non-specialist opinion :o

    AVG is rubbish anyway.

    You want rubbish? try McAfee.
  • AVG is one of the best free antivirus software.

I use kaspersky though. It has the highest detection rate in the world.

AVG was recommended by the Daily Telegraph computer section as the best free antivirus software, and it certainly does the job for us.

  • Can AVG be used with other anti-virus programs as well?

If I already have a firewall set up through my router & AVG, is that enough?

I currently have 3 month trial on a new laptop through Norton, and would like to have AVG ready to go ASAP, will they get along together?

    Thanks

AVG is an excellent anti-virus program but before you install it you must uninstall Norton. If you don't you will find AVG difficult to load.

The other thing that you should have on your computer is some form of spyware checker such as Spybot Search & Destroy or AdAware.

avg is great - much better than Norton which takes over your whole pc , have been using avg for 3 1/2 years and no viruses yet

This is wrong and a terrible statement. Firstly Norton is the company name not a product name. If you are referring to Norton Anti-virus it does not take over your whole system, it simply does what it says, it provides Aint-virus protection. I believe the program you are referring to is System Doctor and yes it does drain your system. However it has nothing to do with the anti virus soft ware.

As a side i had AVG for a year and when i scanned it with AVG anti-virus software it showed nothing however after a major problem i was recommended Norton Anti-virus by a friend and it discover and disposed of 7 viruses. But that is my personal experience.

AVG is being updated at present. The latest version for Windows that you should have is 7.5.430 so check if you are up to date.
