Hey there vanilla and xx_Jo_xx I have 2 boy's 9 and 11 they have both always done thier homework alone :o .

When they get home from school they know if they have homework they have to sit and do it and arn't allowed to play untill it's finished. I give it a quick check over when they are finished to make sure they've done it and thats about it.

The only other time i involve myself is if they get stuck and need a hand, even then it's not about giving them the answers but talking though the question and what they know so they can work it out themselves.

I don't know if it's unusual, maybe our house is weird, but they've been doing it unaided, pretty much since they started school. Back then i used to just read the instruction's out and let them get on with it but all kids are different, maybe yours respond better to having you there.

And perhaps yours are just naturally brighter! :rotfl: Seriously, I have done everything youve done - I know generally people believe that if the kids are not doing well in their homework, its generally because the parents dont put the effort in - but its not always true, I promise...

Vanilla, thinking about it - Ive spoken to his teacher about it a lot... he is just the same in class as he is at home. Is your DD the same at school?

Tea done, dishes done, more laundry done...which reminds me - i still need to deliver my ironing...

Fruit scones made with little one which are now cooling... he can have some for supper if they are cool with some milk.

Think i will read my book for a while and declutter LO to the bath

    Thank you everyone. :D
LW You are right that it is a major worry decluttered. This has been going on since December 09. The Business Link woman had our original request for help. I have written and rewritten that darned business plan so many times.

I didn't know what to do with my time today so I blitzed the ovens. With DS1's help. And sorted lots of paperwork.

The poor pooches didn't get far as I decided it was far too cold and painful.

vanilla One of mine wouldn't work unless I sat with him. The teachers found him the same at school.
I would do what you need to. You know your DD. But as a teacher I would say don't make a major issue out of it either.

Right, I've done what I can and that's enough for me. Did get some lovely clothes on ebay as well - first time I've done that so I'm quite proud - and it's all decluttering as well.

Re homework, I tend to have my 8 year old in the same room as me and I potter whilst she works. It works fine for us so far.

Same for me, but my DS has SEN issues so needs support & encouragement to do anything that needs writing down. We discuss lots and lots whilst he's trying to do - and I diddle about nearby, so can sit down if needed or back off a bit once he's settled into something.

But every child is different - ask and see what they would like?

I didn't get as much done as I would have hoped today, but still more than I would have done without this thread. :T Plus, I got all the dailies done again and sewed some tie-backs for the kitchen curtains that I made at the weekend.

I have an achy back so I'll sign off for the evening and see you all tomorrow. :)

home from hospital.. moomin managed not to upchuck as we were leaving this time though the test was not so evil as the last one.. I think I may have another blood phobic on my hands though :s.. that makes 5 and 4 are girls!! So, awaiting results now..

Enuresis clinic with DD3 tomorrow.. we've not had 1 dry night in 2 weeks since our last visit so we shall see how many she claims she has had. She has also left the wet pullups on the floor all day a few times... YAK!!!!!! She is another stroppy hormonal one, she was 10 in December but has started with boobies and hair so things are not good.. !!!!!! do we do with periods and a nappy??

Chimps away to KH's so we shall see wha stupid time he brings them back today. DS1 got really huffy with DD2 when she said she wasn't going and he said I should make her go and asked why she doesn't want to go.. I said at 13.5 she is quite old enough to decide whether or not she wants to be there and when she does go he completely ignores her 9 times out of ten so why would she want to go. so he said she should make more effort, to which I replied it isn't up to her to make the effort he should be making the effort to speak to her he is supposedly the adult. she may be able to decide whether or not to go to his but she is still a child and he is responsible for making the effort and showing he misses them and loves them, their love is unconditional not whimsical... and they are not like toys to pick up when you want and discard and ignore when you don't or forget about when something more interesting comes along.. like dance class or a karaoke or some random acquaintance moving house!.. Every word will get back.

I also said a very firm No to DS1 today.. and stuck to it.. he wanted me to ring gf and TELL her somethings and I just said no. I told him if he wants to still see Jacob I will support that but I will not under any circumstances get involved in their bickering. it was extremely hard though when he was in the back garden crying because he could hear Jacob shouting 'Daddy'.. he goes to the nursery which my house backs onto and they were outside playing. I knew this would all end badly from day one.. I hate picking up pieces..

DS1 does like his new jeans though :D.. I will have him tidy again if it kills me!! trainers should behere tomorrow and I need to nip to Matalan for socks for him.

Suppose I should go encourage DS2 and DD2 to eat.. I am so not cooking tonight :p

    Evening all,

I wont post my list 'cos it will just just be a copy and paste of Monday and Tuesday!
    I haven't done anything!
Really busy 2 days after being away at the weekend, and cant seem to catch up.
DH late home, so we haven't even eaten yet. Heading for the shower before I'm too tired to do it later.
Congrats to those who deserve them, and hugs to those who need them.

Thanks all for the replies.... DD would be the same at school but she has a one-2-one so she gets a good bit of help there. We did get her a desk for her room and hoped she would like doing her homework there where it was quiet but no she now sneaks up to the kitchen table. :rotfl:She would pretend she doesn't understand it or she wasn't told what to do, so i do believe she play's me abit. It's great to hear i'm not the only one. :D

Poohbear that is fab news, well done you..:j:j:j

Right i best get ready for collecting the kids again.
Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

School run done and DD doing her homework..
    ''Question''
My daughter is 10 and i still sit with her when she does her homework, does anyone else still do this at that age or am i being to soft and she knows it...

Nope.. I read instructions to Tiddles (6) and Moomin (8) IF!! they are struggling to read the instructions and if necessary I explain what they are meant to do but they should only be being given homework to reinforce stuff learned in class so they should be able to easily whizz through it.. if they can't the teacher isn't doing a very good job of making sure the children understand the work good enough.

My 10 year old trots off to her room and sits on her bed and does her homework, Tiddles and moomin sit at the kitchen table.. usually while I am doing dinner so I am on hand to assist with difficult bits but essentially they do it unsupervised... I do check their work though, or OH does.
