How many things can you do with potatoes.

One of our favourites is Pan Haggerty, a bit like a potato casserole without the liquid. Melt some butter in a large-ish frying pan, then layer slices of potatoes with sliced onions and grated cheese. Start and finish with a potato layer and season each layer with salt and pepper. Cook for 45 mins-1hr on a fairly low heat until the potatoes are cooked. Turn up the heat for the last 5mins to get the bottom really crispy and if you can be bothered stick it under the grill for a few minutes to crisp the top - personally I can never wait for that because it smells so good after cooking for an hour! I use about 1lb potatoes for 4 portions (enough for 2 greedy adults or up to 4 with veg or salad).0

Potato Curry - chopped onion, cubed potato, curry powder, creamed coconut veg stock cube and chilli powder to personal taste, cook till potatoes are soft and serve with rice - yummy and dirt cheap!0

One of the Hungarian recipes was made of grated potato, mixed with flour and bound togeher with egg then deep fried. Tasted very good and soundsvery unhealthy but they are filling and I am sorry I dont remember the name. Had a Hungarian au pair for a short while.
The other things were variations on the salami/potato/egg etc... theme! v. cheap and v. filling. She was a big girl;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Things are just more expensive some places than others - where we are you won't get a large bag of tatties for less than £8, and usually more like £10. Less competition I guess?0

I have just collected a book from a Freecycler called the Great Potato Cookbook. It has everything from starters, soups, main courses through to puddings (no kidding), and baking.
I haven't had a chance to read it yet let alone try anything but if anyone needs a potato recipe, let me know the type of thing and I am happy to see if it's in there!!
PS It also has an OS page of cleaning and other alternative uses for potatoes - great or what? :rotfl:That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. Henry David Thoreau0
