  • Have you tried paint brush cleaner. It is good at removing lots of stains.Used it years ago to remove tar.Not white spirit or turps but blue coloured paint brush cleaner.
  • Well it depends on what kind of carpet you have - is it dark or light? If it's light then I'd say try the nail varnish remover again (provided it doesn't specifically state "avoid contact with fabrics" on the bottle!). If that doesn't work, some people find that hairspray, water and "rubbing alcohol" works even on old stains:

The main thing is not to damage the carpet further!
  • What type of fabric is the carpet? and the make of nail varnish used would also help.

    dont panic
  • use swarfega ( hand cleaner for merchanics) rub with nail brush then warm soapy water finish with fabreeze.
as long as its still fresh it should come out like lightening
  • Its a brown carpet not sure of material I'll try wiki and swarfega see of that happens its collection 2000 nail varnish in ebony.
Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?
  • Please help with any ideas....

My daughter spilt nail varnish on her cream  carpet (thats only four months old :o ) about an hour ago.
We have tried to clean it up with nail varnish remover and then vanish carpet foam. But its still there :(
I did race off to tesco to buy a stain devil but when I got it back it says not for carpets :(

I'm hoping you guys may have a solution to how to clean it up?

What type of remover did you use? I found the only one that worked is a harsh on the nails ACETONE one, no nicey nicey ones worked. Might affect the colour of the carpet so best tried on a small area.

Another option might be to claim on house insurance for a new carpet if covered for this type of damage.
One day I might be more organised...........

I read this somewhere else but can't remember where a combination of window cleaner (the spray sort) and WD40 apparently does the trick, though it does take patience and elbow grease.

Would be great to know if it does work well

    Hi Sally,

There's a recent thread that might give you some ideas so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together. I really hope you manage to get the carpet cleaned.
